World Of Warcraft Rifted (Cancelled)
Hey guys, I was bored and started working on making World Of Warcraft compatible with the Oculus Rift.
Here is how far I have come over the last few hours:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CpU7kusXC-k
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N38QulhjpRQ
You might think the IPD/FOV in these WoW videos are wrong, but that is not the case.
It looks wrong because I am playing a gnome, meaning my character is tiny and my mounts are gigantic.
Please keep that in your mind while watching these videos on the Rift.
I have been testing various control schemes for WoW so you can play it without looking at the keyboard, I for example made a pretty good Xbox 360 Pad profile.
I still have to implement head tracking, shrink the menus down to be readable on the Rift, and create a UI fit for VR.
I definitely could use some help with implement head tracking, and shrinking the menus down to be readable on the Rift.
I would like to do the two task above using World Of Warcraft addons, but if you find an easier/better way please for all means use it.
Sooooo...... anyone interested in helping me out with this?
I of course am going to credit you guys if you help me in any way shape or form.

Re: World Of Warcraft Rifted
What has to be done to make head tracking work is simple. Or rather its only a simple solution that can work because of how impossible it is to mod this game except for UI.
To make head tracking work, do it like I understand you did with the controller, have the right button toggle.
To be able to not need mouse or mouse emulation at all an UI mod has to be made, where you can cycle through important buttons. This might not be feasible at all
To let go of mouse and keyboard, the Razer hydra is already possible to use http://sixense.com/wow
It has everything you need except the toggle right click and if you want to go all out the UI mod to cycle through buttons. Hydra even has the left analog free to this potential mod.
For the UI lots of work has to be done, thankfully this is the most simple, and I guarantee u that there are mods for everything that is needed to make the UI rifted. Instead of name plates you need one of those HUD's that have your resources on the left, and the targets resources on the right. And you need to use bartender or what its called to have the actionbar in a half circle below the player. Maybe you can fit a shrunken minimap there as well. For popp up boxes everything should be scaled up and placed in the center.

@Ziggurat I already have the UI figured out, the biggest problem I have right now is how to shrink the menus down.
Do you know any addons that allow you to do that?

I'm pretty sure there is an UI-Scale option in WoW.

Man, I totally overlooked that option, lol.Valez wrote:I'm pretty sure there is an UI-Scale option in WoW.
Thanks for reminding me of this option!
Now I only have to center the menus.

I have finished working on the menus, I soon am going to make a video about it.
I also have changed the 3D effect a bit so now it changes focus over time, instead of "shaking" it in.
This should greatly reduce headaches and make the 3D feel more "normal".

So here is a new video of World Of Warcraft on the Rift, the video shows how the menus look on the Rift.
I made the menus see through so they are easier on the eyes.
What do you guys think?

Looks good so far.
3D is a little weak, and everything seems a little suished and the FOV is a bit to narrow.
The video seems far more blurry than I would expect, guess it's YouTube or your editing programm.
FHD video would be great.
Shame Blizzard isn't rifting WoW themselfs.

I also think it is YouTube or my editing programm, because it isn´t blurry in-game.Valez wrote:Looks good so far.

I can´t do more about the FOV than I have already done, more would result in it being detected as a hack.
Which would lead to the Rifters getting banned, and I don´t want that.

Re: World Of Warcraft Rifted
I viewed the 720p version and it looks good. The 3D looks right, although the FOV seems narrow, and the shortness of the gnome makes it harder to gauge size normally. It doesn't look particularly blurry to me. The flying part looked fun, then it ended Maybe the FOV wouldn't seem narrow if the camera were zoomed out all the way..?
The UI looks basically right, the windows are more 'in front' than anything else. The character portrait in the paper doll screen is actually 'behind' the window, but I don't think there's anything you can do about that.
Overall this looks good, it would be fun to try it out. I'd get used to the endlessly gyrating character models, somehow

I actually thought the 3D of it being behind the screen looked really neat.^^

It does look neat, but it might look neater if it were in front.. right now it's like there's a pane of glass in front of him, sort of like he's trapped
But, without seeing the front version, I can't really say.

Can someone who is good at Photo Shop please help me out by putting an Oculus Rift on the heads of the characters below?

Good luck, do not use an account you are not afraid to be banned on. Banns comes in waves, so they do not occur instantly, and can take some time before you know you are flagged for cheating.Marulu wrote:I now am downloading the newest patch to test it on an official blizzard server,

Re: World Of Warcraft Rifted
Well the warden in WoW is quite picky. It basically is almost running a full scan of your RAM while running, and I think that the 3D stereoscopic driver is going to flag your account. I think the Rift to Mouse will be okay, but even that might alert the warden. As a heads up, people with Macro gaming keyboards have been banned, as well as people running WoW in Wine/Cedega on Linux. I was able to make a random teleport hack once but that account never got banned, but my other account was. I have also been banned while I thought the warden was deactivated. This is years ago so things have changed. Probably more strict with some white listed stuff like Wine and Logitech keyboards.Marulu wrote:Thanks for the warning, I am going to use an test account.Ziggurat wrote:Good luck, do not use an account you are not afraid to be banned on. Its really a hit or miss, if you do get banned on a account Id suggest that you plea for an un-ban, Linux has been given some love with un-bans, and this is the future of gaming so they might be forgiving, especially since they'd be stupid not to have a few Oculus Rifts laying around for testing them selfs

According to this:

there is already a option for 3D.
Could be that it's nvidia only.

Very nice, MMOs are great for the rift as long as you're raiding/pvping/questing.
I seriously hope after consumer release we still some official patches so we get full performance.
I'd avoid Rift for leveling though, killing 1000 savage badgers in VR probably gives nightmares.

I don´t recommend using this if you are a hardcore raider because this definitely is going to decrease your performance.Direlight wrote:Very nice, MMOs are great for the rift as long as you're raiding...
But it is pretty nice for leveling and PVP. (As long as we are not talking about arena tournaments!)

I have finished porting my VR Ready UI and Menus over to the newest patch from patch 3.3.5a.
But not all menus have yet been made Oculus Rift compatible, because to test all of the menus I would have to have access to a high level character, and I only have a test account right now.
Is there anyone who would be willing to let me use their European WoW account to adjust these menus? (You can watch me adjust them using my webcam and Skype if you want to.)
You have been asking for information on headtracking, here you go:
We are going to give you the choice between two head tracking solutions, one for private servers, and one for blizzards servers.
Private server version: Good head tracking with roll - Uses Hack
Blizzards server version: Basic head tracking - Uses Mouse look

I can remember there being a HUD (the thing you use for health and mana bar) that is either as standard or can be configured to have all your bars on the left side, and your targets bars on the right side.
I think this would be better for the rift.
