Dude! What are you doing hanging out here when there is work to be done at that "other" forum? Somebody needs to spank those spammers and their ELEVEN "fake passport" threads! Some of those threads have languished in the lap of luxury over their for more than half a day (13 hours)...cybereality wrote:I hope that banner means they are making a human gyroscope, ala LawnmowerMan

Don't forget that the announcement is tomorrow. At this point I'm 50/50 on it being a new hydra or a new mousepad.
Props to Dan_Sixense for being simultaneously vague and insightful!
On one hand, why would be warn us that an improved hydra will be more expensive?
On the other hand, why is a guy from Sixense (exclusively Hydra) even here? And why hasn't he commented on the hydra shortage?
Questions, questions...

Seems like they pulled every Hydra from all of Sweden. They can't be found anywhere. So I'm guessing they'll release Hydra v2 or some other kind of motioncontroller.

ahhh ... wow, such a thing would be cool, I can totally see a superman multiplayer game for arcades with those ... even though it might be best placed at some sport place like climbing walls (not anywhere near drunk people ^^).geekmaster wrote:This banner:GeraldT wrote:what banner?

So, it's finally June 25th. Is the contest over? What was the correct answer?

On facebook everyone is saying it will be a 7.1 headset based on an analysis of the notches of this image https://m.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=1 ... 5&refid=17
Or the release of the Razer Blade due to it being previously known as a "revolution".
Still maintaing hope and sitting through the painful anticipation.

Re: Probably bad news... no more cheap hydras?
looks like they will release their new 7.1 sound engine. And it will be free until the end of the year.
afterwards it will cost 15 €.
http://www.pressebox.de/inaktiv/razer-e ... xid/606774
The article describes that sound location will be significantly improved.
Not bad for VR at least.

They still have to update the Hydra. Otherwise why would it be nearly discontinued just when the VR revolution is starting?

Re: Probably bad news... no more cheap hydras?
Well that sucked, a really crappy virtual surround.... I did not get any surround feeling.
The audio intended for back, front, and above was not displaced at all. (planes and cars with doppler effect on the sound)
It was a really crappy demonstration, and I do not know why they claim that calibrating things should make a huge difference.
I mean, put some stereo ear buds in your ear and listen to this virtual surround:
(headphones or earbuds required)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Lo9u61lY4U
It can be incorporated into a 3D game engine, and puts that razor thing to shame.

12-15 years ago i played a game called "Counterstrike" - a Half Life Mod. I played with stereo-Headphones, because you could hear from which direction the enemy make noise! It was a elementary advantage - so normal "weekend players" called me cheater... 0_o
And now you tell me that 12 years later they invent souround sound? Sorry, i dont get it... ^^

Epic Hype Fail.
Talk about a cold shower.
I'll still give it a shot out of curiosity but man, this is disappointing.

Ahahahaha.... Did you submit it? (please tell me you did!)
Anyway, I got this email earlier today, and thought back to when I heard about some sort of announcement. I thought "Nah, this couldn't be it... Way too much hype for some stupid surround sound program." Proved me wrong, Razer!

Re: Probably bad news... no more cheap hydras?
I emailed one of the largest resellers of games and hardware in Sweden today and asked them why they didn't Sell the Hydra anymore. The answer I got was that they had sold way less than expected so they desided to stop selling it and they didn't have any plans to start selling it again. I think they might want to reconsider that decision once the Rift becomes more widespread. What worries me though is that it seems like theyre out of stock in the razerstore aswell. I hope they don't go out of production.

Re: Probably bad news... no more cheap hydras?
So the big reveal is a 7.1 headset driver? Sounds about right, actually. The MTBS echo chamber effect claims yet another harvest of misplaced hopes and dreams, film at eleven.Zoide wrote:They still have to update the Hydra. Razer (though perhaps not Sixense) are clearly in the same camp with pretty much every other company that isn't Valve: "VR is totally cool, we love it, we even made that one VR thing [Hydra] that no one bought, and we're super excited to see what everyone else does with VR because we're basically done with it ourselves." Change the specific "VR thing" to the HMZ-T1 or IllumiRoom or the Virtual Boy or whatever fits, and pretty much every single hardware manufacturer has implied that identical sentiment, we are in full-on wait-and-see mode. Such a position would be less defensible if VR really were a novel concept, but according to the ledgers all the big time corps keep, VR was tried and VR failed. Suddenly selling a few thousand Hydras barely registers on Razer's radar screens - "That's great, Oculus, have fun building those VR headset things, and if you ever find a market for a Hydra 2.0 that's several million pocketbooks deep, we'll consider building it". Even if this is the beginning of the VR revolution we all hope to see, everything about this stage of it still looks like small potatoes to an established company. Razer deserves accolades just for bringing something as wacky/awesome as the Hydra to market in the first place, but don't mistake that entrepreneurial adventurousness for real vision. I expect the only thing Razer sees here is a minor fad, and one they already probably lost a bunch of money pandering to once before.

Re: Probably bad news... no more cheap hydras?
I think you're giving them a little too much credit here. They tried to cash in on the motion control craze that started with the Wii on a platform that didn't need it. And to make sure the 12 people that actually cared didn't buy one, they put wires on it. The only reason the Hydra makes sense today is the Oculus Rift.nateight wrote:Razer deserves accolades just for bringing something as wacky/awesome as the Hydra to market in the first place, but don't mistake that entrepreneurial adventurousness for real vision.
Which, like you said, also explains why they didn't announce a new one today...

My Hyrda broke it's right trigger in the first month, and I haven't been able to get it replaced because there weren't any more in the shop I got it from. Everyone has the same problem.
Terrible build quality and support, Razer.
