Dagbladet is one of the major daily newspapers in Norway, and Pressfire is their gaming desk.

"We've been so lucky as to borrow the developer version of Oculus Rift, the virtual reality headset which at least will attempt to revolutionize the game industry. And this is how it looks when Dagbladet journalists try out virtual reality."

Most of the other comments are regarding the sense of scale and vertigo, as well as one journalist expressing the desire to live there.

Come on boone, where is version 2? :D

That's my rift! I showcased a couple of demos for Pressfire/Dagbladet yesterday, and Boones rollercoaster gave the best reactions.
I told them to include his username, no idea why that's not in the video. The two girls were hillarious.

Did anyone else hear them mention Demolition man with Sandra Bullock and Sylvester Stallone? I wonder why, did they use head sets in that movie? It happens at the 30 second mark.

You can also hear one mention game of thrones, its funny how they speak titles in English.

Keep it going Boone, you've built some great here. Start up a kickstarter, I'll throw in 20 bux or so..

One of the girls asked if this is like in Demolition Man when Sandra Bullock and Sylvester Stallone has cybersex in VR. She goes on to say "wait until the porn industry gets their hands on this! booya!".

I know I know. Everyone wants version 2. But there are so many more concepts to explore! The limiting factor right now is artwork. I can barely model a cube. Creating the scene is hard. Putting a roller coaster in into the scene is pretty simple.

Hiring people for a project you work on in your spare time isn't really something you just go and do... or at least I wouldn't, idk.

Hey Boone,
This is my favorite demo so far!!
Its really immersive. I loved the first drop and want some more!! Also love the cheeky second drop. It seriously tricks the senses.

But then I tried it standing up!!! :woot

OH MY.. There is nothing like being stood up on that rickety coaster and turing around 180 and looking down the initial incline. I also tried the ride standing backwards, equally entertaining.

Then I got into bending my knees and leaning in and out of the bends, softening the virtual impacts. Man it totally fools the brain.

I really like what you have done for a prototype and really want more!!! Fantastic stuff!!!

My fav VR experience so far.

Thanks. I would really like to expand on this demo more, but I'm trying out other stuff right now. There are so many cool experiments to try!

Just tried out the demo with my buttkicker 2 (rumble feedback!)

I feel like puking everytime the cart rotates 180 degrees. Is there anyway to disable this?

Oh, I'm not sure what you mean by rotating 180 degrees? Is that yaw, pitch, or roll? When does it happen?

Him not too sure if it was a rift sensor problem but I restarted and now it is ok. The coaster would flip 180 degrees so I would face backwards. I fell from the top of your coaster facing the other way! :woot

I got that problem happening. But it had to do with the mouse, I noticed the rift cable accidentally touching the mouse, which activated the "Moving view with mouse", after that had happened I got the same, 180 degree turn before the steep fall.

Maybe you had the same problem?

Seriously nice work on this demo. Just got my Rift kit today. Downloaded and installed RiftCoaster without issue, but having trouble running it. The top 3/4 of the left eye won't display and this continues over to the right eye. Looks like the assets load up but then it all drops out. Tried figuring out how to grab a screenshot of the 2D view on the desktop, but prtscning it doesn't seem to work. I'm on Windows 7 desktop with an ATI Radeon HD 2400 XT. Anyone having a similar problem or any recommendations?

I have the same problem. Disconnecting the mouse during the demo solves it. But it is not very user-friendly. I hope it will be fixed soon.

-------
On the other notice, I am not sure those sharp turns are good, they break the immersion for me. As the cart violently rocks/tilts to the side, and I am still sitting straight. The best effects are nose dives through narrow passages, and gradual slow turns of the track, when I can watch around. Those sharp turns are not that good for me, immersion-wise.

What are your thoughts on that matter?

Yes, it would be great if this could be changed. The camera just follows the Rift's horizontal alignment, so the cart can be rotated 45 degrees but your body is standing still. If possible, this demo should take into account the cart's orientation. As of now, when you get to the main fall, you must "manually" look down. It would work if we had a 360º rotating chair.

Try to disable your realtime AV protection or run the installer with elevated rights.

It would work if we had a 360º rotating chair.
Sadly it's a limitation of the UDK implementation, it's a serious one.
I have been trying to find a solution without success, until Cibereality said that he we'll see with devs. for a possible integration...
(https://developer.oculusvr.com/forums/v ... f=44&t=735)
I will talk with the developers here and see if we can add this feature in a future update.
This is a serious limitation, that needs to be implemented asap...

Right now the Rift is overriding any pitch and roll and use it's absolute position.
And it's a reason why we never seen anything that runs on UDK with a real cockpit in 360º.

It's time for motion sickness madness ! ^_^

It's a crime against humanity that Boone has abandoned this demo.

Somebody need to continue his work. It's probably one of the most important demos for Rift. Found this on Reddit today:

So please continue improving this demo. PLEASE!

Wow ! Someone posted that to reddit ? Awesome !! Haha I just put that up
a few hours ago... I wish I took more videos because my sisters in particular
went nuts lol. They loved it and all asked if they could come back and try again.
Definitely the best demo yet!
Question for those who have a rift and try this demo -is it blury for you ??
This is one of the blurriest demos I have tried, but on the 2nd monitor it looks sharp..
Forcing AA in nvidia control panel.. Also, is there a way to change the resolution of the
demo to 1920x1080?

Cant wait to get home from work and ride the coaster !! :D

Does anyone else notice that if you look down at the cart and roll your head, the cart stretches and contracts? In general, rolling your head makes things look very odd. There seems to be an aspect ratio mismatch somewhere.

Hi Boon

Love what you have created with the roller coaster experiance. It seems Rifters are taking too experiances just as much as games. Ive put another project on the side to do a themed roller coaster which been on the back burner for a while (your post inspired me to push it up the list). The first is a Fantasy Styled Ride(Think Lord of the rings), the second being a Horror zombie themed ride. (Screens to follow in another post)

Id be really intrested in having a chat as i can create the sceens and the coaster designs, but strugling a bit with the code. My spline meshes keep inverting :S

Would be great if you could drop me a message or an email to have a wee chat. Cheers Pal!

Oh and first post, so Hi All... Still waiting for my Rift to arrive, but in the 7000 bracket (missed the kickstart) so could be waiting till the end of this month. Its been inspiring seeing what youve all been upto and i cant wait to join the fold. :D
