Just got an Oculus support email. Looks like Palmer came through! Woohoo.

Hello recoilfx,

I am reaching out to you today because of your early purchase of a Development Kit.

As you may know, we announced that all Kickstarter backers who pledged for a Rift development kit will get a free Kickstarter Edition Oculus Rift (which includes the pre-order bundle of Lucky's Tale and Eve: Valkyrie.)

Since you purchased a kit before the Kickstarter, we felt it was important that we make sure to extend the offer to you as well.

To push this forward, please confirm your address and phone number.

Please respond by February 18, 2016 in order to qualify for this offer.

Thank you so much!

When was the e-mail sent? Has everyone in here received their e-mail by chance? I haven't received anything yet.

Should we go ahead and contact Oculus support if we haven't received anything? I just need to know what to do with the Rift I have pre-ordered.

I got my email maybe 20 minutes ago. I'm sure it will be a manual contact process so give them an hour or two first? I wouldn't cancel just yet ;)

Yikes, the email I used to correspond with Palmer, and pre-kick, is long gone. Never to be resurrected. I sure hope no one in here gets to rib me with that old addage "...errr...missed it by that much". I did forward some specific emails for safe keeping though.... fingers crossed!

Got an email a little while ago too and just responded. I hope we get put at the head of the line but I'm not going to complain if we don't. :)

edit: Got a response that they received my info, also asked about line position, here's what he said:
You're pre-orders should go out the same time as the Kickstarters, which is in the first shipments.

Woohoo!

Got this reply today from Oculus support-

" Thanks so much for reaching out!

You are one of two on the list that we did not have an email address for. Very glad to hear from you.

I've updated your address. We'll follow up as soon as we have more information on this order!"

I wonder which one of us is left? And while I am wondering... do you think we were just 20 people with some disposable income, or might Skynet realize that the real threat comes from within, and send a T-3 back in time to take out the seed of an idea that leads to it's demise?

Did we help Palmer save humanity..... or just launder some cash? Rhetorical question I guess.... or course it is the former!

That's good to hear man! And this post totally made me laugh! I never thought about it that way. Still so crazy to me that 20 of us sent this random kid $500 USD in hopes of getting parts with which we could build a headset, made of foam core board! And people are complaining about the price of the Rift now? With the advancements that they'd made. You literally can't even compare the two.

So glad to have been a part of this journey with you guys! See you in the Rift!

Wasn't price reason only 20 of you were there, apart from unknown hardware from unknown hobbyist?

Sure people can complaint about price of rift when they were given hope of $300 to 400 price and then retail introduced at $600.
True you can't compare two but 4 years past between those kits and Consumer Version which is good amount of time from technological advancement point of view.

Still i am not advocating price reduction at loss, its just that price need to be around $300 to $400 if they want to reach masses which is ultimate goal of any consumer
goods producer.

Wasn't Palmer quoting "Thing pretty much does not exist for one which he/she can not afford to buy"?

Hey Jxx,
Thanks for reaching out to us!
You are one of two who did not have an email on file, but you are on the list.
Is the address you provided the one you want the unit shipped to? Also, can you provide a phone number for me to add to the pre-order?
Thank you!

I'm all setup now! Very pumped. Getting both the Free unit and buying a pre-ordered unit also.

Plus I purchased a bunch of games on my Note5 gear VR in support of Oculus. I'm hoping some of the games I got are cross platform enabled so I will have some extra games waiting for me on release day. They commented that much like how Android Play Store works (purchases work across phone/tablet/tv platforms), Oculus store will work in the same way.

Also hopeful the new Minecraft Windows 10 expansion which comes soon includes VR support... My 8 yearold son will be very happy to multiplayer Minecraft VR with his friends day 1 :)

Today I received a confirmation email from Oculus with a link to my order on shop.oculus.com. The order page states my date of pre-order as today 3/15. My concern is that this puts delivery out to July.

I'd like to compare notes with others here: did anyone else receive this email?

I got the same email but it's hard to say if it means anything. They pushed our DK2 orders to the front of the line no matter when you pre-ordered. The order was for $0 so it could still be special. I don't see anything about dates anywhere in the order info(except the date it was entered in the system).

Thanks, German. Did you receive the email today or previously?

The date I'm referring to is in the grey bar below 'Recent Orders', it reads: "Oculus Rift $0.00 March 15, 2016".

Well the official "Launch Date" for all the apps and games I believe is March 28th. With Friday being a holiday though, I'm not sure exactly how that's gonna work out.

Hey guys, after living and breathing this hardware for the last year getting ready for launch I finally brought one of them home for a celebratory play-through this weekend. Being close to it all, you don't get to appreciate it much. I literally have 48 headsets scattered around my desk and I've spent countless hours poking around with them doing various engineering tasks, but I haven't actually used a headset for entertainment purposes in over 2 years. Anyway, I had great fun with it and it made me realize how far things have come since this thread was opened. We were so happy just to get a cobbled together bunch of parts and some hacked up software. We would never have imagined such a well tuned custom piece of hardware with a whole library of made for VR content. It boggles the mind. Anyway, just a shout out to the "real" original backers and hope you guys have fun with it.

Cool video! I don't think I had seen that one before; thank you for sharing.

I think 2016 is going to be an exciting year for the industry at large. At a personal level, I know VR has been an important part of my life and has been a gratifying market to work in for which I am grateful and proud. I do think that the next two years are going to be critically important, and making it work is going to require eternal vigilance at a market-wide level. The industry (and we don't yet actually have an industry) is still unbelievably young and untested, so we can't afford to look behind us for too long a time. I say give it the weekend! :D

Anyways, congrats to all and good luck on next steps. We'll get there.

Neil

Ouch... did you catch that bit in the last email update - "you will recieve an email 1-3 weeks before....".

I was moved to nearly expect UPS to be knocking on my door this week, and an email with tracking info, showing up a day late, and a dollar short.

Oh well.... it's free!!!! And damn, the software uses, supposedly ready upon arrival, is damn impressive.
