Looks amazing actually, but I still wasn't convinced they solved the hard problems (i.e. animation).

And this one as well .... if the first update video was not realistic enough for your liking ...

I wonder if the Lyrebird call in the forest at the end is a metaphorical pun for the critics. :P

Definitely impressive.

Any plans to try this out on VR?

Yes, Hannibalj2, if I understand it correctly, they have been trying out the UD engine with both the Oculus Rift and anaglyph red-blue glasses. :)

As for animation, they have already shown 10 year old examples of animation from a very early build of the UD engine. So, it will be interesting to see if it really is the "the best animation ever" as Bruce Dell is indicating. What other hard problems do you see, Cybereality?

Looks great but, again, no animation.

Other hard problems: dynamic lighting and shadowing that matches the scan, compressing the data into something you can distribute.

They have already showed animation, so there is no need to doubt that it is possible. If it will be the best we have seen in any computer game remains to be seen.

They have also showed dynamic lighting and shadows. Will be interesting to see the final result. Other things that are unclear how the UD engine handles are semitransparant objects, hair and fur, sub surface scattering, and colour bleeding.

Yes. Distributing a game with several TB of geometry data will be difficult through both discs and downloads. My guess is that it will be streamed the same way as their Geoverse package make it posdible to stream worlds with several TB of of geometry graphically by only streaming the pixels that you see.

great but er... how do I make this into a fantasy space game? As they can only scan real things, how does that translate into made up level design?
