Hello MTBS3D!

I created a concept of an 180° FOV VR HMD with 2048x600 Pixels named "The Link". Since I am just 13 Years old I don`t have enough money to buy the Dk2 (or the Dk1), but I wanted a VR Headset, I decided to create my own one. My Budget is 100€, which is pretty low for a VR Headset.

// The Idea belongs to Hannibalj2 and foisi, the creator of the Portal Dual and the InfinityEye! Please take a look to their threads: http://wwws.mtbs3d.com/phpBB/viewtopic. ... &t=18335//
http://www.mtbs3d.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=138&t=18369
So here are the Parts:

Displays:
2x a 7'' Screen with the resolution of 2048x600 pixel (cheapest and best one to get in Germany) Cost: 39,95 per screen with includet signal- and controlboard. Ith has DVI, VGA and HDMI connectivity. So 2x this screen costs 79,95€!

Lenses:
4x the OPTI*Media F-51 with f=118
Link: http://kids-and-science.rakuten-shop.de ... Atgx8P8HAQThe Headtracking:
3x IR LED`s for just 0,15€!
Link:http://www.pollin.de/shop/dt/MTY5OTc4OT ... 1050M.html
20m Cable to connect the IR Led`s (I have no knowledge here, that`s just a suggestion)
Link: http://www.pollin.de/shop/dt/NTg2OTkxOT ... _20_m.html
1x a Playstation Eye: For tracking the IR LED`s.
Link: http://www.amazon.de/Sony-9473459-PLAYS ... B000W3YQ1Y

Everything together cost`s 100€ and 80 cents! In US-$ this is 131,23 Dollars.

In the attachement is a Hand-Drawn Schematic of the HMD plus the Price list and
the "Link" Logo.

A quick comparison between the Oculus Rift (Dk1 and DK2) and the "Link":

DK1 DK2 "Link"
FOV: 90° 90° 180°
Res. 1280x720 1920x1080 2048x600
Price: 300€ 300€ 100€

I will post updates here and I will also show you pictures of the HMD- when it is finished.

VERSION 2 will have a 4096x1536 Resolution :woot and will cost about 170€!

Cheers,
PojntFX
PS: Sorry for my bad english, I`m from germany....

Hi,

I would not wait for Infiniteye to report in.

Their concept is fantastic, and I wonder why more makers have not jumped in and made their own versions.

The Infiniteye team look like they have dropped the ball on this one.

And it seems the VR community has Oculus paralysis and is looking the other way.

There is a wide open canyon of possibilities awaiting exploration.

Looking forward to seeing your efforts.

Good luck.

Hi!
Just wanted you to update you about the Link!
I ordered the lenses yesterday (2x Din A4 ones and 4x 6x6 cm ones, just to test what ones are working better;))
Also I bought PVC for the case;)
I think this thing will get more then just a concept (or at least I hope so ;))

Hi VR-Guys out there!
I finished the first working prototype with Smartphone-Headtracking;D
I bought the 2 screen that I posted and I found out that my PC detects them as DK1 (or all demos show me that a Rift is conected:D). Stereo3D is working, but only if you use the screens horizontal, which decrases the FoV. If anyone has an Idea how to fix this please post the ideas ( I cant print the portal dual files, because I don't have enough money yet to buy an 3D printer. I also bought 3 ir LED's from Pollin for 0,45€.... Hope the will work for Headtracking!
I will post some pics later, but I can tell you guy s that it actually looks like a bigger DK1!
The 4K version be in work soon!
Cheers from Germany,
