Tegra / Jetson TK1 + cellphone/ipad display

Post by jonnycowboy »

Hi all,
you know Oculus, Valve and Sony are now all using cameras for low latency tracking, thereby negating the usefulness of accelerometers and/or gyros.
NVIDIA just released a development board with the very latest Tegra chip with 192 core processors. Included with the board is tracking software (for AR).

Not only that, but this board supports: HDMI, DisplayPort and LVDS displays!

Android or linux (more generally) can run on the board. So games would be directly run off the system. Eg: Quake2 or Quake3 for example.

What I am proposing is:
Headset with embedded board (Tegra) (~200$)
PS4 camera for rapid tracking (hundreds of FPS) (65$) (on-board)
Ipad mini retina display or OLED display for low persistence. (<100$)

All this would be contained in the headset, along with a body-mounted battery (3S or 4S Lipo cell) - NO WIRES.

I'd be interested in your thoughts/comments before I start implementation.
