I have been a lurker at MTBS3D for years, but have never really contributed much. I suppose contributing half-baked ideas is still next to nothing
Since the day this was posted: http://www.gizmag.com/ultrathin-flat-le ... ard/23890/
I immediately thought about the combination of that with curved OLED displays to create something that is high res and lightweight.
Of course if it was mainstream from the get-go so that someone put actual R&D into it there could be affordable electric cars and high resolution consumer HMDs now.
Anyways, I saw this http://www.anandtech.com/show/7561/a-lo ... ed-display and it kind of got me excited again. So I thought I would finally post something up so I could either get "yeah dude! HIGHFIVE" or totally shot down :-p
Anywhozel, I dig watching all the stuff you guys do, keep it up!

Hello copec, Nice for sharing! This lcd's are using probably Mipi connectors. Resolution wise they are OK, but the weight would be a welcome improvement!

I am mostly excited by the potential of it!Hannibalj2 wrote:Hello copec, Nice for sharing! This lcd's are using probably Mipi connectors. Resolution wise they are OK, but the weight would be a welcome improvement!

The gold meta-material lens sounds very similar to a holographic optical element to me. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holographi ... al_element
Holographic optics would need to be designed to work with the specific wavelengths of light produced by the OLED panels.
Lightweight, thin HMD's would be awesome. Custom diffractive/holographic lenses would be very pricy to get right though.
