I posted this to Reddit (http://www.reddit.com/r/oculus/comments ... mill_idea/) yesterday, but would like to hear your thoughts too. Anyone been down this road?
A mix between the Virtuix and a harness, kind of, where the support system rotates on ball bearings. You'd "wear it" like a backpack. With your upper body placed at the pivot point of the support ring so that it would rotate naturally as you turn. I envision the support being made from a from a flexible rubber/steel material. Could it work? (Does it already exist?)

Re: Omni treadmill concept
How would you crouch or lean forward... bend down on one knee ?
Looks like a little bit too much engineered.. I like the concept of support.... just need to keep it simple.
Nice work.... keep brain storming
I made a quick sketch up myself... just playing with supports.

Connect to a harness to the belt instead maybe.
And to be able to coach the support could be variable height (hydraulics?) but only height is variable.

There are a number of threads discussing "Locomotion Platform" devices, some very similar to your concept design.
Where "Locomotion Platform" was mutually agreed on as a good term for such devices as used here:
http://www.mtbs3d.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?f=140&t=16516
A good discussion of rotation support systems like yours:
http://www.mtbs3d.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?f=120&t=16436
Initial presentation of early Virtuix Omni concept, with discussion of "backpack" harness:
http://www.mtbs3d.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?f=140&t=16249
Discussion of other variations of Locomotion Platform, and more:
http://www.mtbs3d.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?f=140&t=16484
There is some great information buried in those threads. They are worth reading if this stuff interests you.

geekmaster: You're an awesome resource, why don't you apply to become a moderator? Only if that means you don't lose your right to your own, strong, points of view though...

I would naturally tone down (moderate) my own posts if I were a moderator. Who would provide such "outside the box" information in my absence?Zoide wrote:geekmaster: You're an awesome resource, why don't you apply to become a moderator? My "reality goggles" do not have a phase adjustment necessary to track KBK's periodic phase shifts.Guygasm wrote:KBK!!!
He provides interesting stuff all the time, but sometimes unfathomable by anybody else. I think he would admit that himself. And I think he also likes to keep his most valuable ideas to himself, preferring to tease us with cryptic riddles instead of sharing them in sufficient detail to be useful.
We need somebody with an open mind, who also freely shares even his most valuable insights and ideas.

On this, something I haven't seen, but would love to see. If that harness was powered/actuated - to the point that it could support the weight of the person... Maybe you can ..."fly". Additionally, it could have a "seat" that can extend for vehicles, chairs, and riding horseback
