Xiaomi Mi VR Play

Post by Dilip »

I happen to purchase Xiaomi Mi VR Play headset which is step up version of cardboard.

Here is my little review

Positives.

1) It has very good build quality, two zipper ensures you can attach your headphone jack no matter where its located
on your phone be it on side, in center or at upper left or upper right. Zipper enclosure also securely holds the phone.
There is no worry about phone slip out while show.

2) Optics are crystal clear, very premium quality.

3) Metallic touch button on top is handy and work as intended. This button makes headset uniquely supporting Cardboard 2.0
configuration which is more accurate and widely supported on all the phones, compared to magnetic switch for Cardboard V1.
which was not always working and fussy.

4) Head straps are nice quality and of good length. Headset can be easily worn by large headed as well as small headed people
equally, there is large room for extending and adjustments.

5) Fabric clad plastic shell feels nice. It does not leave any mark of face after use, very comfortable around nose area. Large viewing
cave ensures you can easily put this on while wearing spectacle.

Limitations.

1) FoV seem to be little Smaller, very odd to notice but i actually feel visually congested. More feeling of looking through binocular
than transported to other world. Since i have now many iteration of cardboard this cramped visuals are too much evident to me.
my 5.5 inch Redmi Note3 looks more bigger when in different cardboard.

2) Light bleeding is issue, there is no foam or pad completely encase your face, both sides of your eyes aka Specs temple area
allows light to sneak in way to immersion is block both sides with your hands, not ideal anyway.

3) There is no way to adjust IPD, Since i have Plastic Cardboard with IPD adjustment lack of it is pronounced.

Over all pleased with build quality but didn't liked lack of light shield around sides and FOV is less may be 75/80 degree at best i assume.

Nice, looks pretty sweet Dilip. You must be so happy with that, even though there are drawbacks it looks real good. :woot

I bought this headset for my brothers Christmas present:
I'm not sure what the quality is like, since its his first Vr headset I think he'll be happy with it. Its alsmot like Vr Box except packaged for retail.

Whoh.. its Huge box of Utopia 360..What big thing they are putting in that package?

Which phone your brother uses? How old is he?

If he intend to switch phone someday, i will highly suggest Xiaomi Redmi Note 3
http://www.gsmarena.com/xiaomi_redmi_note_3-7863.php

SnapDragon 650 is very good mid range processor for VR
Redmi Note 3 has Gyro too.
5.5 Inch FHD Screen is nice in quality.
Over all Phone is Bang For Buck Package, just confirm you are buying Snapdragon version and not Mediatek one.

If you ever go for it Buy this

DO NOT BUY THIS

I think the box came out big cause I held it up to the camera, I think it just fits the headset and bluetooth controller in it.

My brother uses the Galaxy Samsung 6 I think and hes 31 years old. His screen is like 2 or 4k. He paid like 900 for his phone a year and half ago. I think this phone will last him a few more years.

Why not go for Google Pixel? https://madeby.google.com/phone/

I think my next phone is gonna be one like this depending on price, My Asus Zenfone 2 laser is holding up pretty good.

4k not possible on Galaxy S6, its 1440p

If your brother has Galaxy S6 than you must have purchased GEAR VR for him as nothing else can Match it, not even Utopia
(*Ok,i have seen Utopia's positive reviews Reddit n YouTube)

I have tried many Cardboards and Gear VR too, There is day and night difference between any cardboard iteration and GearVR (Exc. DayDream, which is yet to try)
Gear VR with Compatible S6/S7 is actually fast, low latency, Fine tuned device.

http://www.ebay.ca/itm/Amazing-Brand-Ne ... SwYIxX9EiS

Ok its twice the price at CD$ 57 (*Utopia being CD$ 30/40 depending on from where you purchased)
but i can safely say its 10 Times more fun, accurate and App supported.
Had you taken opinion here..

IMO Google Pixel very over priced.

Currently not Daydream Supported, but very soon and inevitable DayDream support going to be there on

ZTE AXON 7
http://www.gsmarena.com/zte_axon_7-8067.php

Read many positive reviews here
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... -_-Product

2K screen and Snapdragon 820, 4GB RAM, 64GB ROM expandable up to 128GB
its unbeatable Bang for Buck. Though its overpriced in Canada at the moment.

#On side note.

Utopia controller is Useless in Cardboard Apps, only you can do volume up down nothing else.
No apps will support the controller is most sad part.

Hey, it says on the utopia website that most games and apps work with the remote, http://www.myretrak.com/vr/default_eu.aspx

I'll let you know once I see him use it.

See the controller logo on apps

1) Crossy VR (Very basic game)
2) Hardcode VR (Game or not, unknown)
3) Snake VR

Flight simulator VR, Occupation VR and Zombie warfare VR on apple only
so not taking in count, since your brother has Android Galaxy S6.

That's 3 only, out of their recommended 20 apps
still i would like to read your finding, so do post.

My opinion is Still on GEAR VR,its little costly but best investment for Galaxy S6
