Is there any way to save per-game seperation?

Like the subject says, is there any way to save individual Stereo Separation settings for each game with the 162.5 NVidia 3d driver? It seems that whenever I save the settings using Ctrl+F7, it changes the global Stereo Separation value in the control panel. I'd rather have it set per game, as some games (such as UT2004) I want a small separation value to keep the cross hair whereas in other games (such as Oblivion) I want a larger one to add depth. It's a real hassle to have to switch it manually when changing games. Perhaps there is a registry setting I could add manually?

Not sure - You could adjust it (move the separation slider) before You launch the game.
The You just have to adjust convergence.

With the modern NVIDIA Vista drivers, if you hit CTRL-F7, your profile will be saved. Give that a go.

Neil

Seperation is a global setting. Even with the modern NVIDIA Vista drivers.

I don't mind it that way actually. I occasionally change it for a couple of games but for the most part I leave it set at one setting.

That's too bad. Thought there might have been a registry value I could set or something. Ah well. And yes, CTRL+F7 sets the separation for all programs.

Actually (in the current Vista version anyway) Ctrl+F7 does not save the seperation settings. It just stays where you set it.

Well, that's strange. So if you adjust the separation using CTRL+F3 & CTRL+F4, then press CTRL+F7, and the separation setting in the control panel stays the same? That's not how it works for me. Well, I guess I haven't seen the how nVidia 3d works in Vista, so I'm not sure. I just posted my 3d system configuration in my signature, so if anyone has any ideas for my setup, let me know. All I know is that I'm finding multiple desired separations and it's annoying to change things manually.

well it worked for the XP NV drivers. I adjust the scenery with crtl+F3 to F6 and then save the settings (seperation & convergence) with crtl+F7. Then it is always how I left the game when I enter it again.
I have to admitt that I use mainly 3 different games in S-3D for it lately.

Some things I tried that didn't work:

added StereoSeparation registry entry to 3d gameconfig entry:
Some of you must have thought of this but I tried it and it didn't work. I still thought I should post it because sometimes it's good to know what doesn't work. In addition to adding that entry in the gameconfig entry, I also deleted that entry from the main Stereo3d entry but that didn't help either. It looks like there's a hard-coded default of 15%.

By the way, you CAN have per-game hotkey sets. Just add the corresponding entries to the game-config keys. See the "Post registry entries here" topic for more details. Tested using separation controls on winXP under 162.50.

Later.

Sadly I also haven't found a way to save individual separation and it would be really useful since there aren't separate profiles like iz3d and with max sep it could get really unpleasant in certain close-up scenes, not to mention terrible ghosting in some games.

Hi guys,

I'm still on old-school XP but from what I've learned about 3dVision, you should be able to use the same registry-file approach to get per-game separation. Make a folder full of .reg files, one per game and name the file after the game to make it easy (ie: Crysis2.reg). Then double-click the right file before you play the game to set separation for that game. Put the folder on your desktop for easy access. For example (for 64-bit Windows) double-clicking this .reg file should set your separation to 15% unless they've changed number systems.

Code:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\NVIDIA Corporation\Global\Stereo3D]
"StereoSeparation"=dword:0000000f

; semicolons are for comments
; filename should be "game.reg" or 15-percent.reg

Just make your .reg file as a plain text file, then change the extension. Later, you can right-click and select edit if you want to change something. Get your separation value from the registry at the above location after playing your game and saving the settings.

You can also make multiple .reg files for the same game like Aliens-vs-Predator if you want the three characters to have different separations. Just make three files: Alien.reg, Predator.reg, Marine.reg. In that case you probably also want to include a different StereoConvergence setting in each of the three files too. Just make a second entry in the .reg file and use the game's nvidia registry entry. See the below thread for more info. Just adapt it to your version of Windows.

IMHO:
There should be a global separation and a per-game separation. I think it's just one of nvidia's oversights.

PS: since I don't have Win7 + 3dVision, confirmation is welcome.

Thanks for the appreciation, it is encouraging. Sorry I didn't post this sooner. Someday I'll have a new version of Windows and will be able to test things like this myself. Here's something else I've learned about changing registry settings:

hotkeys via registry changes?
in my tests, the registry settings get read during game startup or video reset. In other words, you can't change the separation via the registry mid-game. I tried this in order to create hotkeys that change your 3d settings mid-game like iZ3D does with its 3 presets but it didn't work. New registry values only got read when I reset the game's video output, not just toggling s3d off/on. Oh well. On the bright side, it looks like we can use the Helix-mod to setup some 3d-settings preset hotkeys but that's another thread.
