If it helps I have second most recent driver(most recent is bad for 3d vision users). It doesnt do that. Dead island is kind of bad with 3d vision though. My guess is its postprocess, see if you can delete that line and save if it will launch. Dont edit, copy paste mine unless you have to.(I played around with some shadow stuff at one point). I am pretty sure its postprocess, remove it and set video.scr as readonly so the game doesnt change it on launch. here is my video.scr
Resolution(1280,720) Monitor(0) BPP(24) FSAA(0) TexBPP(32) TextureQuality("High") Filtering("AnisotropicTrilinear") Fullscreen() Shadows("High") ShadowMapSize(1024) SpotShadowMapSize(1024) Lightmaps() GammaFloat(1.00) MaxRefresh(60) MaterialQuality(0) FXQuality(3) FXFadeLevel(2) WaterQuality(0) GrassQuality(0) EnvQuality("FullDynamic") ShaderPath(3) VSync() DisplayDeviceType(0,0.000000,1.000000,1.000000,1.000000)

The GraphicsCard-Driver change did it for me, great idea. I switched to 304.79 BETA though.
BTW: Do you know a solution for the shadows rendering at the wrong depth?

Happy it helped.
I dont think it can be fixed. 3D Vision has "trouble" reading shadows for dead island. If you start game then alt tab then reopen game it literally doesnt know where to put shadows till you adjust convergence/depth. Its only game I've seen do that.

MP3 is meant to be played with 3D vision even though it's a bit repetitive. BTW did you notice the shadows to be at the same distance apart from where they should be, ie the same offset? Maybe one can modify the exe or some dll...

I dont think it can be fixed by anyone besides someone very good with shaders/programming. I couldnt make sense of it. Shadows are very complex to me.
It seems like one eye is shifted a few "inches" too far. Its a bit hard for me to explain. I frankly have no idea whats going on with it. I tried to look at it with helix's debugger but again, I have no idea. I really don't think its worth your time to look into, I really doubt settings change can fix it.
Im glad you said that about Max Payne, everyone kept talking about it. The story /sound track was phenomenal. Gameplay / 3d Was a bit bland. 3D always add something to games, but just didnt do anything for me in MP3.
