Chromatic Aberration is a failure of a lens to focus all colors to the same point. This could be a problem for affected VR HMD users because they may end up with blurry experiences, doubled text, limited ability to look around in VR, and a general loss of immersion. While most HMD makers implement some kind of chromatic aberration correction with their products, we learned that the solutions may not work equally well for everyone.

Recent episodes of Neil's Messy Basement have focused on making the PC the ultimate home entertainment system for gaming, movies, and entertainment. While we continue to get a lot accomplished in this area, streaming content on PC (e.g. Disney Plus, Apple TV, Amazon Prime, etc.) often faces a lot of limitations. For example, our surround sound systems may not work to full capacity and many providers limit their display resolution to just 720P instead of the more common 1080P and 4K we all need and want.

As we continue our journey towards fully enabling our PC to be the ultimate home theater entertainment device (AKA Home Theater PC, HTPC), we face a major challenge! We've bought our PC a 4K UHD Blu-ray player, we bought our 4K Blu-Ray content, and just when we are revving to go…it doesn't work. Instead, we are plagued with errors for architectures that no longer exist or were never fully implemented in the first place. Or maybe we have an expensive surround sound system, and the blu-ray it runs on looks really ugly on the display we have because the technologies are too far apart. OR maybe…maybe things could look much better on our PC than anywhere else because it is powered by unrivaled graphics and processing technology.

We are just THRILLED with everything we turned up for enabling the PC as the ultimate home theater device (HTPC = Home Theater PC). It took months of research and development to find the right mixes of hardware and software to make it possible to run Dolby Atmos and DTS-X on all our display hardware without tradeoffs – and we did it. We think you will be equally excited, and some new doors of possibility may have opened because of what we discovered.
While you wait for those videos, we have something special for you TODAY.
