S3D HDTV or pc monitor at size around 32 inches

Post by Tril »

I'm not new to S3D but I haven't been reading the forums much for the past year so I don't know about all the new models of HDTVs and monitors coming out. S3D HDTV are now coming out in stores and I've experienced the new Samsung 3D LED HDTV at Future Shop. I liked what I saw.

I've got an iZ3D monitor as pc monitor right now. I'm wondering if there's any S3D pc monitor or 1080p S3D HDTVs bigger than 22 inches but smaller than 40 inches out or announced. Eventually (I'm in no hurry), I'd like to replace the iZ3D monitor with something a little bigger, a little more high resolution and with less ghosting. It's for using with the computer so 40 inches is starting to be a little too big and requires a bit too much viewing distance.

Asus PG276H is a 27" 1080p 120 Hz monitor announced at CES 2010 for June availability, that's the biggest stereo monitor you can get in the nearest future.

There are a few 24" 1080p 120 Hz monitors annouced, the list is in the same thread.

Zalman has announced ZM-M215W, a 22" 1080p XPol monitor that works with passive polarized glasses.

Also, iZ3D 24" 1080p monitor is said to be in the works.

Interesting, thank you.

I found this list : http://www.3dathome.org/experience-products.aspx" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Looking at that, it looks like the Samsung LED 9000, 8000, 7000 Series might have a 32" HDTV but I don't know if it will be 1080p. It's supposed to come out soon.

Wow, 19" TV in the LED series! However 3D capabilities only feature in the higher-end 7000 and 8000 series where 40" is the minumum screen size.

Well ASUS has a 27" model coming out soon. And Zalman has been showing a 32" model at trade shows but there is no ETA.

The 32" model is most likely a 3DTV that is "coming soon" along with a 3D projector, and not a PC monitor.

coming soon: zalman 3D glasses, 3D TVs and 3D projectors???

No, the 32" model has a working prototype and has been shown publicly. But yeah, its an HDTV but check the title of this thread.

The question was about announced models, and the 32" TV has never been announced so far.
I don't think we'll see a whole line-up of 3D TVs from Zalman, most likely 32" and 40" models at most.

The Zalman 32" monitors were shown in that pdf i found in january (dated from january 2010)

There were two 24" monitors (one 1920x1080 and one 1920x1200 IPS panel) as well as two 32" monitors with IPS panels (one HD ready and one FullHD + 10 bits pixel depth)
They were all presented as professional monitors though, i'm not sure if we'll ever see them at affordable prices.

I think that a small HDTV would be fine as a computer monitor as long as it has a gaming mode to reduce latency and is small enough to keep the viewing distance short. I'm more interested in HDTVs than monitors because they have more inputs and they are more likely to work with HDCP sources such as gaming consoles and 3D Blu-Ray players.

The Asus PG276H at 27" inches, 1080p and 120 Hz looks interesting as a pc monitor. However, I don't know if it will support HDCP. I want my next 3D monitor/HDTV to support 3D Blu-ray players, if possible.

There isn't much available between 22 inches and 40 inches available right now. Something in between those two sizes would fit well in a bedroom.

Ok, in summary, the sizes and resolutions I am looking for will come out in a few months.

As I said in the earlier thread, I don't think 32" 1920x1080 is going to fly as a PC monitor. The pixel pitch is too low, so it's not really comfortable to sit as close as you would with a PC monitor. At this size, much higher resolution such as 2560x1440 or even 3200x1800 will be far more appropriate.

Another problem with 3D TVs is they don't currently support full-resolution gaming, you only get half-resolution formats such as 1080p checkerboard, line-interleaved, or full-res 720p. With a dedicated PC monitor capable of 120 Hz, you get full-resolution 1080p60 stereo, however such monitors do not support HDMI 3D, which means no support for Blu-ray 3D and no PS3 stereo gaming (the latter can be hopefully worked around by game developers though).

You didn't think consumer electronics companies are going to make it easy for the end user, did you?

Since it has HDMI port, it most likely does support HDCP.

I can't remember reading this PDF. What did they say about HDMI 3D support? I tried to search up your posts but to no avail, could you please provide a link?

OK, so Zalman wants to position their 24" monitors and 32" TVs as "professional" products. Hopefully it's only a marketing ploy to sell more of these things to business users, and the prices will remain on a consumer-friendly side.

Hopefully they would also consider a 27" IPS panel from with 2560x1440 resolution to apply their "mu-Pol" filter to, that would make an ultimate 2D/3D monitor combo.

BTW from the PDF it looks like they use VREX μ-Pol (micropol) filters.
