what is better?

Post by sharky »

hi guys! is it in your opinion more important to have the gallery visible outside without mtbs subscription, or to have the possibility to post comments?

i vote for comments.. would also be cool if they would be used a bit more

IMHO both is important.
If you have it for public viewing then people who are not yet familiar with stereo 3D could get a better idea of what it is we are doing here by looking at some pictures.
But for us it is crucial to be able to post comments to pictures so we can talk about them.

Would it perhaps be possible if everyone could see the pictures but in order to post a comment you would have to be logged in?

I would think that this would be the best way.

ok the problems is this:

the page where the image is shown is the same as the page where the comments are added.

so if we allow comments, every spambot will post, if we block comments external users can watch the images.

this is why i asked wich one is more important in your opinion...

Well shouldn't it be possible like you can do it in the forum?
I mean here you can set topics to be viewable by everyone but only registered members can write something in them.

I know it's possible in the forum but I don't know how you would script that, so we could apply it to the gallery.

the difference between forum and gallery is this: on the forum there is one file for the forum visualization and one file for the posting. so if we cookie protect the one for the posting everybody can see the forum, but only who is registered also at mtbs can post. in the gallery there is only one file for viewing and posting.. so if we protect it who is not subscribed, can not post but also not see...

There must be a solution, so both is possible.

What about a second page for Non-Users? A page where they can see all the pictures and the posted comments, but without the buttons to change something.
What about something like a slide show for (random) pictures with their comments. And if people want to post, the'll have to register
