3D mode disabled in 1080P and most resolutions

Post by mpage »

I have read all the other posts from people that have had this problem, but still cannot seem to get mine to work. I have also contacted the TriDef support team, but they just told me to get another graphics card. TV: Samsung HL72A650, PC:Intel core 2 duo@ 3.33, ATI HD 5850, Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit.

Problem: 3D mode is greyed out when I set the resolution to 1080P or almost any other resolution besides 1280 x 1024 and 1366 x 768 (which work flawlessly for 3d, except for the size). I know it is not my tv, because Avatar on 360 works perfectly at 1080P (or does it output 720P?). So, it has to have something to do with my pc.

I have scaling disabled in CCC, HDMI is plugged into correct input in TV (HDMI 3), and have renamed input to PC on the tv. Not sure if this helps, but I can get the tv to go into 3D mode at 2 other resolutions (not 1080P or 720P), but there is no 3d effect. I ran the test image from TriDef, but, instead of a smooth rectangle, I saw checkerboard.

Can anyone help with this? I really don't want to shell out the money for a new graphics card, so a way other than switching to NVidia would be best.

Thanks in advance

You're graphics card is fine. You need to create a custom resolution in CCC. Go into CCC, set the resolution to 1920x1080@60Hz. Turn the overscan slider to 0%. Created a custom resolution to make everything fit your screen (1872x1056 works for me). In hardware scaling, turn it on, set it to "Centered Timings" (the last option). Also, set the Pixel Format to 4:4:4 Full PC levels. When these are all set, you shouldn't be able to move the overscan slider even if you wanted to.

You should then be able to turn the 3D mode on. I've found that "Mode 2" works the best, without having to swap left/right.
