Most compatible drivers/hardware config?

Hey, I know this has been discussed a lot here already, but I got kind of lost looking at all the different threads as to which drivers are the best to get. The main thing I did pick up is to stay the hell away from the 8000 series until Nvidia can clean up its drivers.
I'm planning to buy a new videocard soon with the sole purpose of stereoscopic gaming. I've been on ATI cards for the past few years, but I was one of the early adopters of the revelator glasses back with my TNT2 and absolutely loved it when it worked. Eventually the ghosting got to me too much and I gave up on it, but since affordable HMD's have started coming out, I really want to go back to real 3D. Right now I'm leaning towards getting a GeForce 7950 and I thought I'd ask what the most functional drivers are for stereoscopic vision. I really want to avoid as many problems as I've been reading about of stereo artifacts and systems crashing. Anyone care to say what their favorite driver release is?
