New Core3D Drivers from eDimensional

Post by Maggi »

Hi y'all !

It's been a while since I came here, but today I stumbled over a new driver conceot from eDimensional and thought I'd share the news ... :)

It is a little hidden in their knowledge base, but if you follow this link http://www.edimensional.com/kbase.php?lang=en&id=29" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; you'll find some information about it and going into the "Beta Testing" article, you'll find some basic instructions as well as links for downloading the neccessary software packages (Core3D beta drivers, DirectX SDK form Nov08 and .NET 3.5).

I'm still at work and to be honest, I don't know when I'll have the time to check them out for myself, but maybe some of you are willing to give it a shot ?

Best regards,
Maggi

but yeah if you think about it this could be quite major. 100hz - 120hz LCD's are slowly creeping their way into the consumer market, and this could definitely put edimensional back in the ring, able to compete with Nvidia even. I personally haven't tested the drivers yet but if eDimensional is serious about this then it's a very good day for 3d. The old edimensional drivers- when you were able to get them to work properly they actually were quite nice. Again, this is intriguing. not to mention everyone with projector rigs!

the driver description is a little , um :)
1) Flightsim X does not work at this time. We will get this one working again soon since it’s our most popular title
2) Need For Speed 2 Underground, Call of Duty 4, Quantum of Solace and others were not responding to the hotkeys. When you hold Shift Home and end then try the F9 etc. hotkeys the numbers at the bottom left would move but the picture did not move. Now it works.
3) We found that if you have a setting called “Full Screen Effects” to turn it off. We will look in to supporting that in the future but figure it’s not too important right now.
4) Try turning ON vysnc if there is a setting.
5) Here are some games that we tested successfully
6)
- FSX Flight sim X

- Midnight Club 2 (works when full screen effects is off)
- Call of Duty 4 (has some problems with the color of the gun and soldiers but we may be able to quickly fix that or change a setting)
- Crazy Taxi
- Halo (Only seems to work on Vista at 800x600)
- Quantum of Solace
- Crazy Machines 2
- Far Cry
- World of Warcraft
7) These do not work
- Sacred 2 does NOT work – we will check that one
- Any game that is older using directx 7 or 8, or opengl. We will get those working in the future.

Yeah, that driver is rather alpha than beta on my system ... :(

- the built-in test seems to be working ok
- Crysis works in S3D, but is horribly slow and upon exit, it crashes
- Fallout3 seems to be having problems with all eyecandy enabled and crawls at ~1fps
- rFactor crashes right away (might be related to two particular custom d3d9.dlls I'm using)
- Doom3 does nothing (as expected by the lack of OpenGL support)
- NfS Most Wanted crashes upon starting
- 3D Mark 2006 runs in S3D but is terribly slow and crashes upon exit

...

no dice for me
