So sony's demo was using an interlaced circular polarisation screen.
The reason for sony not announcing any release date (on both the screen and the PS3 3D availablility) is that Sony doesn't want to jump in commercial screen production until a 3D standard is officially available.

Its unfortunate Sony is waiting for someone else to come up with a standard. They seem to be in a position to set the standard, if anything. Again, companies are going to have to work this all out somehow. Otherwise a lot of time and money is being wasted.
