geo-11 Witcher 3 - perfect

Post by Lysander »

Works perfect with the basic instructions.
I hit 60 in Oxenfurt marketplace, where before, it dropped to 50s and I was also able to increase Drawing Distance settings from HIGH to UBER - one of the most demanding settings in the game - so far constant 60 xD :woot :woot :woot
I still have a few % of GPU left, I'll see if I can push hairworks further :D

Yeah, it's frickin' amazing. Thank you for the screen shots also, these are really helpful, but I didn't have time to make any for blog page. Please forgive me if I steal some of your snaps. :?

You take these with normal 3D Vision alt-f1 right? I think in nvidia_dx11 or dx9 mode that should still work fine.

Also worth noting that I tested Witcher 3 on driver 512.95 using dx9 mode and it was working, so it's one that currently works OK.

yes, the usual nvidia shortcuts for screenshots work (mine is Alt+C). Feel free to use my shots, I added a few more :) The shots in the original game entry on the blog didn't really do the game justice :P

Strange. I am using driver 452.06, maybe try that? Or try direct_mode = nvidia_dx9 in d3dxdm.ini

y, i probably should try other driver
( i tried nvidia_dx9 - the same result but with much slower loading a save)

ok, i've tried different drivers:
436.30
446.14
425.31
452.06

452.06 is working only, and when using other these drivers - instant crash just a second after a save is loaded
(52-57 fps with geo11 and 43-49 without it)

Good, so perhaps this info will be useful to the devs. Also, I suggest adding your system specs to your signature for even more information about your case.

@Lysander - which files did you transfer from uncompressed geo-11 folder, and where did you place them? A simple drag and drop operation will add extra folder layers for some content like ShaderFixes folder. I cannot get God of War to activate in 3D with geo-11, while original version (force_stereo=0 in d3dx.ini) is working perfectly.
Dual boot VR/3D Vision disk partitioning (multiple SSDs). 3D Vision - Windows 10 v1809, 425.31 driver, 32 GB, i9-9900X@4.5 GHz, hybrid-cooled 2080Ti, 4K LG E6 OLED TV with EDID. VR/geo-11 - 3080Ti with Vive Pro 2, also have Aero, wireless lens-modified Vive Pro, Index, Reverb G2, Pimax 8K.

You have to copy d3d11.dll, d3dcompiler_47.dll, d3dxdm.ini, nvapi64.dll from the x64 folder, that should be enough.

I just moved this from my old 1080ti "3D" machine to my 3080 VR box using geo-11. I ramped up all settings to max and still maintain 60fps everywhere so far. it really is amazing.. However.. where is this "Draw Distance->UBER" setting? Is this from some mod? Can you point me in the direction of how to set the draw distance?

Cheers

oh? Very strange, for me it's just under the Graphics settings, all settings go from HIGH->UBER. The only mod I have is the high textures one, but that one has it's own Textures setting, after Uber. This is the GOG GOTY version. Not sure what else to tell you.

Ahh, maybe its an option added to the GOTY version. My settings go from HIGH to ULTRA and I have no "Drawing Distance" setting.

I tried Witcher 3 with the nvidia_dx11 output and I get a black screen (but I can hear the music). I have to Ctrl-T to disable 3d vision to be able to see the menu so I can quit the game. (Stereoscopy works fine with normal 3d vision.)

-3d vision is enabled in Nvidia control panel
-hardware = emitter+Asus monitor
-I disabled fullscreen optimizations for witcher3.exe and disabled steam overlay
-Geforce driver: 452.06
-Game is set to fullscreen in settings
-I simply copied over the x64 folder contents and set force_stereo = 2 in d3dx.ini

Next, I changed to windowed mode and I can see the geo-11 overlay text, but there is no stereoscopy, and the 3DV emitter doesn't turn on.

Does anyone have an idea on what could be wrong here?

just tried dx9 output and 3D works in both fullscreen and windowed mode but i get very poor perfomance like 15-20 fps (gtx1080)
my windows version is 1909 (no updates)

upd: it works when i change setting when the game is started, but now, when closed the game with windowed mode on - it won't start anymore in dx9 output

Keep trying. Mine CTD'd a lot when I was testing dx9 mode but it was unpredictable. If I kept trying to start it, it would eventually start after a couple of tries.

just tried dx9 output and 3D works in both fullscreen and windowed mode but i get very poor perfomance like 15-20 fps (gtx1080)
my windows version is 1909 (no updates)

upd: it works when i change setting when the game is started, but now, when closed the game with windowed mode on - it won't start anymore in dx9 output
Keep trying. Mine CTD'd a lot when I was testing dx9 mode but it was unpredictable. If I kept trying to start it, it would eventually start after a couple of tries.
i just rolled back to dx11 and it is fine
to recap
my spec: win10 (1909), gtx1080, 452.06
nvidia_dx11 fullscreen - yes
nvidia_dx11 windowed - no
nvidia_dx9 fullscreen - yes (low perfomance)
nvidia_dx9 windowed - game won't start
nvidia_dx9 windowed - yes, but only when game is started in fullscreen mode first (low perfomance)

I tried two different PCs, both with win10 21H2
gtx1080ti & gtx980
both have 452.06
One is using the 3DFM fix and the other not.
nvidia_dx11 fullscreen - both just show a black screen (which I can get out of by using Ctrl-T to turn off the 3D. Then it's 2D but I do see the geo-11 overlay).
nvidia_dx11 windowed - both 2D; 3DV emitter doesn't turn on

At least you have verified that nvidia_dx11 works with fullscreen on 452.06, contrary to what it says in the blog post.

So I blew away my Witcher 3 install and reinstalled it from Steam so everything is as vanilla as possible.

I run the game with 3DV turned off. It launches normally. This is just an initial sanity check.

Then I turned on 3DV from the Nvidia control panel and ran it. The 3d emitter turned on, but there is just a black screen (I can hear the music). I had to Ctrl-T to see the menu and exit the game.

Then I ran 3DFM and used it to install the 3DMigoto 3D fix in Witcher 3.

I then launched the game again. 3D stereoscopy was working normally. Whatever 3DFM did fixed the black screen.

Next, I performed a geo-11 install by copying d3d11.dll, d3dcompiler_47.dll, d3dxdm.ini, and nvapi64.dll into the folder that contains withcer3.exe. I edited the existing d3dx.ini to set force_stereo=2.

Now I run the game again. Black screen problem again. I have to Ctrl-T like before to restore the picture to exit the game. Before I exit, I notice that I can see the geo-11 FPS overlay on the screen.

So, whatever the 3DFM's 3DMigoto Witcher 3 fix fixes apparently is undone by geo-11's d3d11.dll.

I have verified this behavior on two separate PCs running 452.06.

Specs:
Windows 10 21H2
Nvidia 3D Vision
Geforce 980 or 1080ti running driver 452.06
3D Vision driver installed via 3DFM.
direct_mode = nvidia_dx11

Hm, very strange, I followed the same method and no issues here, the only difference seems that I'm running a GOG version.

Do you remember if normal 3DV stereoscopy worked in your game prior to installing any 3D fixes? Or did you get a black screen like me?

Hm, I don't think I ever tried it without a fix. It just kinda always worked, I didn't have problems with the fix for this game.

Well I just DDU'ed the display driver and installed driver 425.31. Under that driver, geo-11 works. Then I DDU'ed that and reinstalled driver 452.06. Aaaand the black screen is back.

So, evidently, driver 452.06 breaks 3D Vision on Witcher 3, 3DFM's 3DMigoto 3d fix fixes it, and geo-11 breaks whatever that 3d fix fixed.

I think probably what is happening there is that you need the Schwing hack for anything later than 425.31. 3DFM will always install a special hacked copy of the nvidia driver if you hit Play3D. That Schwing hack is not part of geo-11, and should be unnecessary for anything except the special nvidia_dx* output modes.

You can set the hack globally by changing the setting in 3DFM Settings.

Bob, that was it! Thank you very much. For anyone else having any problems with 3D Vision being broken on driver versions later than 425.31 and the 3D Fix Manager fix for it breaking geo-11 when you trying to launch the game from 3D Fix Manager, see this screenshot from the settings page to show you how to globally enable the Schwing driver hack:

Tested this on my setup.

Relevant specs:

Windows 10 21H2 (latest updates installed)
RTX 3070 GPU, 516.59 drivers + 3D vision driver installed for DX9 compatibility (courtesy of 3dfixmanager)
Primary display: 4k 120hz, Gsync Off
3dv1 glasses, tricks with CRU + NVTimingsed to force my monitor to work w/ 3d vision
Overlay software present (Discord, Steam). Even with both injecting overlays into the game, this seemed to have no ill effect on the fixes, geo-11, or stability of the game.

Link to fix: https://helixmod.blogspot.com/2016/06/t ... -hunt.html
Version used as of time of posting: v1.33

Process followed:

*Installed game, ran it at least once to confirm it works on my system
*Installed fix from above link, copied contents of geo-11 v0.6.10 over it (taking care to not move d3dx.ini to preserve the game fix settings)

Changed the following settings:
d3dx.ini: force_stereo = 2
d3dxdm.ini: direct_mode = nvidia_directx9
convergence/separation: to taste for my display

*Launched game. It worked!

Looks perfect. Seems nicely compatible with nvidia_dx9 mode of the fix. The GUI for the 3d vision setting changes defaults to the 3dvision version, and the fix hotkeys worked.

Guys, cannot disable the separation and convergence values overlay. Toggle key combo does not work and neither does changing it. Any ideas?

Guys,
Any idea what this top line can be attributed to.
I have the game set to 1080p. Obviously at 4k it is not visible, but looks like some pixels are missing/overlapping from the top and bottom images and when combined I get this moving line.

Anyone else having this issue? It makes the game very distracting to play.

I decided to try the DX9 output mode and was surprised to observe a significant performance degradation in DX9 (~15% in this instance). I wonder if other games show something similar.
