Is it possible to launch external programs from a script?

Hi! I'd likt to implement a visual/audio feedback to my toggles, and I'd likt to know if is it possible to have my script sending somethign to the windows speech synthesizer or another self-made tool.

MS Speech is supported internally in FreePIE. For external programs you might look into general guidelines for running external programs on Python, but it might be difficult to control them from the script.
