Samsung 4K UHD JU7500

Hi, I'm back (it's been five years since my last post). I just ordered the 40" model of the Samsung 4K UHD JU7500 series. It will arrive in a week or two (it was not available locally). It supports 4k (3840 x 2160), 3D, 4:4:4 and it comes with a pair of active glasses. I'll use it for watching TV and with the computer. I've also got a Denon AVR-X4100W receiver that also supports 4k, 3D and 4:4:4 so it should work fine with the UHDTV.

The manuel of the TV lists the supported resolutions for 3D Modes as follows :

I'm planning on trying the 3D mode with HDMI and my pc. I've got Stereoscopic player. I'm wondering which viewing methods I should select in stereoscopic player. Any ideas which 3D formats are supported by the TV?

I've also got questions about gaming in 3D on this set :

1. I've got an Nvidia 3D vision kit and an Nvidia GTX 680 with 4GB of RAM. Will having the Nvidia 3D vision kit plugged into the computer make it possible to activate the Nvidia stereo driver and send the TV the left and right frames in a format supported by the TV?
2. If that does not work, what are the alternatives? Would the DDD Tridef ignition driver work?

Hey, hey! Welcome back.

If you want to use HDMI 3D, then you will need Nvidia 3DTV Play. It's actually free if you have the 3D Vision emitter plugged in ($40 otherwise). However, I'm not sure if it can do 4K, and even 1080P may be limited to 24Hz. Unless they updated it recently (haven't checked in a bit) but there has been that limitation for a while. In any case, you should be able to do side-by-side (SBS) at any resolution, and that will work fine with Stereoscopic Player or DDD TriDef for gaming. Hope that helps.

I received the TV today and I did some tests. My video card supports 3840x2160 at 30Hz. It's working fine with my computer going through the receiver.

The TV has a 3D menu where you can manually select between :

• 2D to 3D
• side by side
• over and under

I tried side by side with YouTube videos 3D-SBS videos set to fullscreen. It works but eyes get reversed depending on the video. The TV has a option to flip the eyes but it's a bit deep in the menus. I counted 27 clicks on the remote to change the option and get out of the menus.

I tried Nvidia 3DTV Play. It works but it's limited to 1080p at 24Hz. When using this, the TV automatically enters 3D mode and the 3D mode reads "ON" instead of the three manual modes mentioned previously.

I also tried TriDef. I set TriDef to side by side, manually set the TV to side by side and started Skyrim at 3840x2160 resolution. The 3D worked fine but the framerate was too low with the graphic settings set to their maximum values.

The 3D active glasses look a bit cheap but it does not matter since they are light, work fine and fit over my glasses. Battery life might be an issue, it's not rechargeable, it uses a small battery. There were two batteries in the packages. The product page says that each battery is good for 70 hours. I would have preferred something rechargeable like the Nvidia glasses.

EDIT : I got it working at 60Hz. I had to change an option in the TV menu at Menu -> Picture -> Picture options -> HDMI UHD Color and set to ON for the HDMI input I'm using.

4k 3D. But it's in side by side or over and under so that means that you lose half resolution per eye.

The Samsung glasses that came with the TV work with a non rechargeable battery. I bought new glasses because I wanted a model that uses a rechargeable battery. They are sold under the name "SAMSUNG-Compatible 3ACTIVE® 3D Glasses for 2011-15 Bluetooth 3D TV's" on Amazon and they work with the TV.

so you are gaming in 3d at 4k at 60 hz? but its actually 30 cause of frame splitting? is it possible to game at that?? and what graphics card can possilby put out 3d at 4k??

what bout 10803d? whats the highest you can get it to go.. can you do 60 hz per eye with that? or is that split as well..

this tv is supposed to be hdmi 2.0 and it has 60hz 4k, but no 120hz 1080.. have you tried to see if it will accept that signal?

hows been your experience over all?

I have been debating over getting a tv like this vs a 4k projector.

The TV takes in 4k at 60Hz and outputs it at 120 Hz.

I've got an NVIDIA GTX 680. It's not quite good enough for 4k gaming. I have to lower graphics settings to get good fps. I'm planning on upgrading later this year. I'm waiting on NVIDIA to release their new cards before choosing my next card. I don't play much in 3D, I'd need a better video card.

The TV does not have any noticeable lag at 4k 60Hz that I can notice. However, on some other resolution and fps, that TV has very high lag that makes it unusable for pc use. It's not usually a problem as I always use 4k.

Nvidia 3DTV Play only works at 1080p resolution so I don't use it.

I had a 1080p 3D projector before and I sold it. It was too noisy to my taste. That's an issue with projectors, most projectors generate a lot of heat and use a fan to cool down.
