Getting Vsync from HDMI possible?

Post by Ludvig »

Hi There!

I have a project where I want to sync a motor to a video cameras shutter. I have done this quite easily before on Composite and VGA video which has a easily obtained VSYNC. I have not yet found a way to get the "vsync" from hdmi video. Is this a pipedream or is it possible? How does it work for 3d? How do you get the sync signal from HDMI to trigger the glasses?

Any tips is welcome, it doesn´t have to be cheap solution.

Best Regards

If you want to practice some HDMI hacking skills:

I have one of bunnie's HDMI hacking devices, and you can buy one here:

You should be able to extract VSYNC using these methods.

It may also be possible to use an HDMI splitter with an HDMI/VGA convertor and get VSYNC from the VGA socket. This $6 adapter also puts out composite video and audio:

Thanks a lot for your reply!

I will dive in to the links you provided pronto.

The cable you linked to seems to be of the "dumb" sort. Since my source of hdmi is a camera(bmpcc) there is no trickery I can perform on that side. Would i not need a active adapter? My videosignal is 30P, so it is also a problem that vga is usually 60hz. I will get twice the amount of pulses and no way of telling which is in between the camera exposues. Basically I need to get a ttl level pulse everytime the camera takes a picture, 30 times a second from the hdmi signal.
