our lives.
Just trying to revive MTBS3D. :D

Since Tesla has put in 245wh/kg batteries into their cars i am again really excited about them.
This time they will succeed, especially when Tesla builds its 5billion gigafactory.
Soon battery manufacturers are going to replace the graphite anode with a nano-silicon anode and ramp
capacity up to 320wh/kg.
VR and electric cars will form the coming decade i think.
The electric car has sth in common with VR. For decades we wanted it but the technology wasn't ready.

Anyone care to get an Orgasmatron implant? (yes, that is the real name of it.)

so disappointed by the e-cat ... and here I was wondering if my next pet will have an off-switch when I have to travel.

Forget about it, it's a sham, andrea rossi is a sham, he's a convicted criminal with nothing but failed energy ventures the biggest of which is probably the company he made which converted industrial waste into fuel that got disbanded after it only produced toxic waste which it illegally disposed of and tax fraud.

He claims the e-cat has been independently tested and proven, however the "independent" test was done at his facility and his people set it up before the people from the independent lab were there.

They had to make assumptions about the test and were not in control of all aspects of the test. They had to measure the power output by using a camera to record heat as they were not allowed to attach any instrumentation to the device.

They did not know what exactly the fuel or the catalyst in the reactor was and to determine the power output they also needed to know the mass of fuel in the chamber after the test and before it but they were not there when it was setup so they were not able to weigh the mass of the chamber and fuel before the test. Instead they were given a second device which they were told was completely identical to the one tested with exactly the same mass of fuel in it.

So you basically have his people demonstrating the device, not allowing any direct measurement and only having their word on how much fuel it actually started with. Yes that is really an independent and conclusive test :|

Apparently a 3rd independent test was started in march so we'll have to wait and see but I wouldn't hold my breath.

yeah Andrea Rossi really is a scammer. Demonstrating fusion in a little garage without any radiation shielding
whereas thousands of scientists over the whole world are trying hard and hundreds of billions of dollars
get invested only for trying to generate 1 Wh of positive energy outcome. :x
Its right, Rossi has done some obscure businesses in italy concerning waste.
But i would put my bets onto another horse, in fact a real horse. liquid fueld thorium reactors(LIFTR). Awesome reactor design. + those reactors can diminuish all the 272,000 tons of nuclear 'waste' and
provide the whole world with energy for 70 years.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4UXXwWOImm8

In fact there are coming many more other nuclear reactor designs called GenIV reactors that are going to increase fuel efficiency by an order of magnitude and also improving safety significantly.
I like this one very much. Far far away from every household....

I care for the orgasmatron.
Combine it with the Novint/Tenga
and you have the missing VR I/O device!

haha, anyone bored of seeing Rift rollercoster reactions? try this one.

- Battery technologies, such as Lithium Air, that could potentially make even electric airplanes viable (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ncjU7jMLGmI).
- Nano-robots made out of DNA that will soon revolutionize cancer treatments among other things
- Nuclear Fusion (call me an optimist, but I think it will be done in the 2020's)
- Resurgence of gene therapy, which much like VR came before it's time. Now they have what they need to start doing it properly. It's the time for a big comeback in this field, which will perform miracles and cure a score of horrible diseases out there.

Unfortunately, no word on the treatment for baldness! Damn you science!!! :x

There are many! Unfortunately there are too many variants of solutions that noone even dares filing a patent for it.

Just to correct you its Liquid Fluoride Thorium Reactor (LFTR).

It's a shame really, most of the world should already be powered by cheap and safe LFTR, and we would have no energy crysis yet decades ago when they discovered the power of the atom all they wanted to do was build bombs with it so LFTR died as it didn't produce nuclear material for weapons so all the money and development went into conventional uranium reactor technology which did :(

And lol at that video, she sounds like she's just pitching for investment. She goes on about "my technology" "our technology" "our design" yet the technology and design is the same as other LFTRs, they may be using a different moderator and slightly different salt, but the technology and design is no different. It sounds like she's trying to pitch it as different to an LFTR as they are only using uranium nuclear waste for fuel and not using thorium but it's the same thing lol.

That video almost sounded like she was reading from an essay I wrote on LFTR last year lol, just at the end she didn't have the part about the virtually limitless supply of thorium that I had in it.

Personally I don't believe the E-Cat is a scam and hope the publication of the independent study this summer sheds some more light. But if you don't like that, then maybe you'll like the Navy funded Polywell project. (Although the details and progress are extremely hard to parse)

@Endothermic:
yes sounds a bit like that.
Also i don't like these annoying vibrating sounds she makes at the end of her sentences.
Money is what this technology needs actually. If i look at the vast amounts of money big energy companies
or car manufacturers throw around for new plants i get really mad. Alone VW is going to invest 102bn$ over the next 5 years to grow their business. They should build some humongous battery factories with that, then price would also come down. See Tesla, VW.
Technology and money is really here for some big changes in the world. Only those mo....loving .... need
to evolve.
Also why does media think Musks gigafactory is crazy? VW has an engine factory in east germany Salzgitter,
that measures a whopping 28,000,000squarefeet and only produces 1,2million engines per year.
For those who are interested in next gen Li batteries.

I, too, would love to see thorium reactors happen. I'm excited about this guy's idea for a fusion reactor using timed hammer strikes.

Edit: Also, brantlew, that Polywell reactor looks even more fanciful than e-cat. That page, like the e-cat, makes my bullshit meter go crazy

That is a real game changer for concentrating solar power.
A low cost mirror foil with 30+ lifetime appliable to any curved surface.
No need for costly glass mirrors anymore. :D
Just a metal and a foil on top.

Quadcopters and other similar UAV's are going to change alot of things in human society, from big brother using it to watch you picking your nose, to good people using it to find and rescue victims of natural and or anthropogenic disasters, studying wild life like never before etc.

Im trying to build one of this machines which are kinda expensive, but i also need to get a new pc to be able to run DK2 so i will need to flip a coin to see in what spend my money :|

Im sure most if not all of you have seen this video

The Estes ProtoX Nano quadcopter is billed as smallest in the world, and less than $40 including RF remote control (can bind with stunt remotes from bigger quads). I have two (one for a gift), and extra props. It is so zippy it worked great outdoors even with a wind too strong for my bigger quadcopter. Great for a practice quadcopter and works great indoors too.

Great fun to play with after you buy your DK2 computer, while replenishing hobby funds for a larger quadcopter.

i want to go to el sotano de las golondrinas and do some 3D recording for the oculus thats why is very hard to me to decide if PC or quad

I would be afraid to put an expensive camera in a quad. At least a plane can glide back to safety at motor power loss. But yeah, FPV is my dream, and I am glad to hear Trappy won his case against the FCC (but they are appealing to go after him again). I even encoded one of his videos (Living FPV 2) to play in my eink Kindle video player:

The ecat can not be measured on the credibility of Rossi alone now that Tom darden / Cherokee / IH has acquired it. However, Rossi has had no luck making it self sustaining (closed energy loop) making me wonder if the cop is not yet economically disruptive.

The real revolution, in my mind, will be the scientific earthquake if this proves to be a novel energy source and not just hydrogenization or something similarly banal. Not since Galileo said we were not at the center of the solar system has there been an opportunity to completely upturn establishment thinking. Rossi is a heretic of the first order. The credibility of venerable institutions such as Nature and scientific American will be called into doubt and we will have to reconsider the basis of all scientific research and funding today.

Of course, maybe it's nothing and just a series of miscalculations. I am leaning towards this thesis, but I believe there is 40% chance that it is the real deal. A probability so high that I think it behooves the world to be paying attention to this.

A billion dollars should be invested in this field. Certainly makes more sense than 170B for Facebook.

A complete different approach in producing high quallity high density batteries.
Physical roll to roll vapour deposition.
GM is an investor. Probably the future, because the yield is what matters.
"It's clearly a breakthrough – it's a world's best, made on a mass-production platform," said Professor Wei Lu from the University of Michigan, a battery expert knowledgeable about the process. "It's not either/or in cost and performance in batteries anymore – Sakti3 has both. They built a really high performance device on a really low cost platform – like building millions of high end processors in a factory that produces ordinary plastic wrap. It was quite a scientific feat."

In another talk she even mentioned 82$/kwh. That would be 4800$ for 60kwh, or only 3600€. :D
