How to choose HMD display?

Hi All

I want to build my first HMD but i can't find good display.
I have LCD screen from portable DVD player but it looks poor when i look at it trough lenses.


(Same thing with my IPS LED PC monitor)
I tried using my Phone screen (which through lenses looks amazing) but it can't be used as PC display (horrible lag).

Anyway
Can somebody explain to me why my DVD player screen looks poorly while my Phone screen looks great?
Does it have to do something with display type (TFT, LCD, LED) ?
How to choose the best display for HMD?

Because the DPI is much higher in a phone than in a DVD Player or a monitor. Also the screen of your DVD player is probably garbage and the screen of the iPhone is one of the best available. If you compare the price of your phone and your DVD player you'll probably have a good starting point for the answer.

No, it has to do with DPI and build quality at this point.
