Possible UI approach

One issue that seems to keep coming up is UIs in the rift- namely, the text tends to smear and become unreadable. I was wondering if it would be feasible to combine a normal pre-warped game scene with a UI that was postwarp. My inspiration for this is geekmaster's GMSphere thread, where he displays the desktop at a 1:1 pixel ration with no warping in order to avoid the smearing effect and keep the text readable.
I realize this would make the head rotation effect on the gui and the world inconsistent with each other, which could be a problem, but maybe the clarity it allows would be worth that oddity
