Of course gizmodo UK is talking about the success of "Journey to the Centre of the Earth 3-D", the US summer blockbuster success. Here is the article:

ok read the article. it was quite pessimistic questioning whether this will take of. my comment (currently awaiting approval)

Any good news for 3d is, well, good news for 3d. But why couldn't they do The Mummy 3 in S3D? That would have made waaaaay more money...

I'm really tempted to go see that in RealD 3D but it is fairly close to the kiddy end of the movie spectrum. If they did Mummy 3 or Dark Knight then I would have gone no questions asked.
