I'm really not expecting my kit till probably May though (i'm in the early 6000s). No idea with customs process here either, sometimes with electronic imports they tend to get "special" taxes or even .... <shudder>.... go missing!

I am an international backer (UK), and my status switched to 'Processing' sometime last week.
I also am in the 'Unassembled kit' tier, as are the US the recipients so far. I suspect all the 'Unassembled kit' backers have had their dispatched, and US backers have simply received their first due to being closer.

Hey guys. I just got official confirmation that rifts are being shipped out in batches based on location. Rifts will be going out internationally "shortly".

@maboo I really have no idea. As they haven't really described how they are shipping internationally i could only speculate it would be by region (as determined by UPS). So maybe one for Oceania, One for North Asia, and one or two for Europe (locations not shipments ).

Same here (#20xx, NZ) so maybe having more than 1 kit going to the same(ish) destination helps our chances... ...a bit?

@ all the kiwis: I'm in Auckland. Good to hear so many kiwis are into VR. Is one of you the person who outbid me on all that Virtuality gear a year or two back?

I have another Rift coming (20xxx) as well. It does seem to me they are sending them in order, at least the initial batch all seem to be < 500 or so. I hope to get my 20xx one within a month (allowing a week or two for customs and duty etc which I know will screw me).

@ KBK: Thats some sneaky stuff to know about the tax. Shame that it wasn't done like that with these Rifts. With shipping (which is included in the tax amount) the Rift will come in about $50 over the 'no tax' cutoff price (around NZ$350 last time I ordered something).

There's a reply now, he got it from oculus after asking a lot, must be frustrating for them to have the info but unable to get it out to their customers.

There is an official statement on the Oculus Forum regarding Over seas Dev kits!

We're still in the process of setting up our international fulfillment network. We expect to start shipping our first large batch of units to European backers toward the end of next week. Asia should follow a week or two after that.

To be honest, our logistics process is still in its infancy -- we're sorting out the details and optimizing as we go. For example, this week we're working on setting up a fulfillment center in Europe that should cut another week off future European delivery estimates.

This is what happens when you have a team of engineers leading your distribution efforts.

We promise we'll get faster as we go! Thanks again for your support and patience.

I did cheat though. I had it sent to a mail forwarding address in the US and DHL international express delivered it into my hands today (2nd April).

How much extra did that end up costing you?

Very frustrating to say the least. They certainly know how to test ones patience.
Oh well I guess the only good thing that will come from this is that hopefully there will be some more demos out in the wild by time I get mine.

About $90. Yes I know, it is almost a third of the value of the rift itself.

However... why are you here posting if you just got your Rift?

Setting up an international fulfilment network? Isn't that why you use companies like UPS, so you don't need to reinvent the wheel?

UPS will just pick it up, as far as I know.

It's up to the sender to make sure you have all of your paperwork, forms and fees all lined up.

Update: Just received my tracking number (politely asked the support for it), it's already on the customs, shipping to Brazil, order number 11X
