Windows 8 will be in stores on October 26 in two desktop/laptop flavors: home and pro. Want the Windows Media Center? Extra charge.

Those with MSDN and software assurance subscriptions will probably be able to grab a copy by mid-August [you read right] with TechNet Plus paid subscribers getting it a week later.

Microsoft is offering a $40 upgrade price [direct download or $70 with media] for users of Windows XP and after to Windows 8 Professional until the end of January 2013. As well, purchase a computer from the beginning of June through the end January 2013 and you can get Windows 8 Professional for $20 [and you don’t have to upgrade the new computer!].
