Given that it's almost Thanksgiving, I'm super curious if any of the 100 Kickstarter $275 UNASSEMBLED RIFT PROTOTYPE KITs ("estimated delivery: November") have been received by anyone yet.

Please Santa, bring me my Oculus Rift dev kit by Christmas! I've been so good this year! :-)

Edit: Ah, I found Palmer's reply about the November shipments a few posts back: http://www.mtbs3d.com/phpBB/viewtopic.p ... 0&start=15

In addition, I can say with 100% honesty that I know nothing about HL3 or its release date, and neither does anybody at Oculus.

After seeing Gaybugs post for 2 major supported titles (which i had no reason to disbelieve) and yours about HL3 (which i have not been following the status of) i started to suspect something was a bit to good to be true but didn't expect it so blatantly from Oculus staff. Unfortunate.

Hah, Gaybugs. It's kinda like my username, only slightly modified to imply homosexuality with a negative connotation. That's very funny. And here I thought you lacked a sense of humor.

Oh yes, the sarcasm is getting thicker by the minute. Chill out, Okta. The sooner you admit to yourself that you *should* have understood that it wasn't a serious comment, the better off you'll be.

I guess this is what happens when news about a hype of this magnitude dries out completely. People start getting antsy in their pantsy. At this point I'd be happy just to have impending delay confirmed. Then I’d at least know. A delay, though unfortunate, is understandable but the lack of information is not.
But at least I get to cruise over to London and stalk Palmer in a few weeks. I wonder if he´ll sign my man-boobs.

Negative connotations? Surely you *should* have realised it was in referral to the light hearted joviality of your posts, but by no means serious. Perhaps also you should try not to associate the word 'Gay' with a negative connotation to homosexuality.

Agreed. It's the fact that a delay hasn't been announced that makes me think everything is on track. I get the impression Palmer would have given some sort of update by now if they knew it was going to take longer than they thought, to manage expectations if nothing else.

Having said that, I hope people don't get their hopes too high for a pre-Xmas Rift, just in case...

DICE couldnt even be bothered to support joysticks for PC BF3.

Ill be amazed if they support something as niche as the Rift.

They are EA/DICE now remember, the only thing they are interested in profits.

Innovation is not a priority. thats why they are already rinse/washing Battlefield 4 for 2014.

Also all their decisions are based on telemetry, and their wont be enough rift owners to significantly affect that.

Hate to say it, but i think Battlefield 4 could be REALLY good since they are building upon bF3, at least as long as they don't do the arid-only environments and do add in a bunch of snow, mountain, woodland(DayZ) type maps as well as make proper fixes/additions to the game. Not a huge fan of BF3, but they really had something there with BF3, on the technical side at least, in particular, a few believable, VR-like game elements made some real progress, but it just fell short. That said, i hope they cancel 4 immediately and go to 2143...

I´m just extra sensitive about anything regarding “product information distribution” because that´s what I do for a living. I guess when you can draw parallels to something close to home your´level of acceptance will be set to whatever bar you yourself operate under. I work with diagnostics tools at Volvo Cars and our products are extremely niched in both hardware and software. Our customers would storm our gates if we were as reluctant to share development updates as Oculus are. Of course I don't think its necessarily fair to compare VCC and Oculus, just trying to explain/justify my growing impatience and the level of annoyance that follows.

Guys, do you really have the stomach to play a game like Mirrors Edge with a HMD?

I know I don't.

Whether I have the stomach, I don't know. What I do know is that I can't wait to find out. ;)

I've hardly had any problems with motion sickness before, so I'm fairly confident I'll be able to handle most of what the Rift will throw at me.

I think playing Mirror's Edge with a HMD would actually give you less motion sickness?

I know playing Mirror's edge made me sick since the game tried to make it feel like I was using a HMD but in reality you are watching a fixed TV : that made my brain confused

First game ever that made me really sick

I wish I could tell you guys stuff about release dates and whatnot, but it's not really under my discretion to say so. I know how you guys feel, and I'm sorry. I'd be really eager for updates at this point too, especially since we've been pretty quiet for so long.

I'll try to get Palmer/Brendan to release an update soon.

Glad to hear you understand. Eagerly awaiting any scrap of news, even though it has seemed pretty sure my shipment in January will be on time, I can't wait to see what people think of the Rift in the wild.

Given the very short development time Oculus is working with, I'd rather have them give an update with known details rather than what's not known. I think most of us would be happy simply knowing you guys are working hard, and things are coming along (or if there are some setbacks). At any rate, I would rather wait than have a rushed, half-arsed product. ;) ;)

You know, every sign of activity makes us happy :D It must not be a release date or a new feature revelation, of course it would be great, but everything like:
- "Today we made the tracker driver working"
- "We have just produced the first batch and they look great"
- "Having a brainstorming for the consumer version" + Picture of you in the meeting room
- Picture of Palmer having a pause (ok, this is improbable ;) )
These are small and leak-free information that make us feel like partecipating in the development and make the wait bearable!

Actually Kickstarter backers ARE involved in the project, not with skills but with money.
This is not my only crowd-founded project and i can say the comunication is better than lot of others.
But for example Project Cars has a forum where the developers continuosly show their progress and "investors" can interact with them giving feedback or ideas.
(E.g. they said they ordered an Oculus dev kit to try to support it :D )
I know a hardware projects is different, but this is an example how a crowd founded project i think should be.
