More good news for you early adopters.

If you’ve invested in a 3D TV and are faced with a distinct lack of 3D broadcasts to showcase your cutting-edge technology, you’ll be pleased to know that Virgin Media has announced they’ll be screening the French Open in 3D.

Though you’ve likely heard all about Virgin’s 3D On Demand service (it just recently inked a deal with Disney and Paramount), this marks the first time the TV company has moved into the live 3D broadcasts arena, something rival Sky has been doing for a while. Earlier this year, Sky offered viewers the chance to watch coverage of the Nintendo 3DS launch live in 3D, just the latest of many 3D broadcasts.

"We're delighted to be adding one of the year's most prestigious sporting events to our calendar and giving our customers more of those 'wow' moments in breath-taking 3D," said Cindy Rose, executive director of digital entertainment at Virgin Media.

"With Sky Sports, Eurosport and ESPN all available in HD and SD and a great choice of sport on demand, Virgin Media is the perfect choice for sports fans everywhere."

The news comes at a time
[*]when the sporting world is eagerly awaiting Wimbledon in 3D. The All England Club recent announced in March that it would be broadcast in 3D through national broadcasters as well as roughly 600 3D-capable cinemas around the world.

Have you ever watched a sporting event in 3D? Do you think it adds to the experience? Let us know!
