Nazi-Made 3D Films From the 1930s

Australian movie director Phillipe Mora discovered two 3D films made by Nazi propagandists dating back to 1936, which were lost in a dark corner of the Berlin Federal Archive. To achieve the effect, the directors apparently held a prism in front of two lenses.

Mora was doing research for an upcoming documentary on Nazi cinema and propaganda when he discovered the 30 minute films. They had been previously ignored because they had been labled as "space films" instead of 3D ones. Oddly enough one film, a musical titled So Real You Can Touch It, featured shots of sizzling Bratwurst
no word I take it when/where they can be downloaded- copyright should be expired by now (usually 50-70 years) so they should be freely available to the public. If they are available in side-by-side twill be epic.

Before 1965, German copyright law was life + 80 years. These movies were filmed in 1936, so even if their director died at this date they won't be in the public domain before 2016 at least. If the copyright was transfered to Joseph Goebbels who was the Minister of Propaganda for which these movies were made, the copyright would end in 2025 since he died in 1945.

In France, copyright lasts for the life of the author + 70 years.
There are some oddities though, like recordings lasting less, which leads to really weird mess like having some movies or songs that fall into public domain but for which the lyrics, music scores and/or story are still copyrighted.
Passive 3D forever !
DIY polarised dual-projector setup :

Bah! I wouldn't want to sully this website with crap like that.

However, if you are looking to do a really good 2D to 3D conversion, here is some vintage work!

It's because of the difference between an author and a performer, that's the reason why some recordings entered the public domain recently (Gainsbourg in 2009) but you still need to pay the author of the lyrics and music.

I wonder if the films are any good. Might be interesting to watch from a historic perspective.
