LG G-Slate: A Dual-Core, Honeycomb Tablet With a 3D Display

Here's the first look at LG's G-Slate tablet, gunning to be the best Android tablet by equipping a dual-core Tegra 2 chipset, 8.9-inch 3D display, 3D camera, and of course, Honeycomb. It also runs on T-Mobile's 21mbps HSPA+ network.
The 1GHz Tegra 2 chipset enables 720p HD and 3D content on the tablet, and the ability to output 1080p HD and 3D content to TVs and displays. The rear camera is a five-megapixel stereoscopic 3D shooter capable of recording 3D video in 1080p resolution. It's also worth noting that all 3D content displayed on the G-slate will require glasses, so it's not like the Nintendo 3DS.
The G-Slate also has a two-megapixel frontside camera for video conferencing, and 32 gigs of storage space. And, as with most tablets and smartphones these days, it also comes equipped with a gyroscope and accelerometer. T-Mobile and LG arenn't revealing pricing or exact release dates quite yet, but they say the G-Slate will be out this spring. Motorola Xoom, Blackberry Playbook, you might want to watch your backs.

Update: While T-Mobile hedges its bets with a "spring" launch, LG says that it'll be hitting US soil in March as one of the first Honeycomb tablets. The honor of being first will almost certainly go to the Motorola Xoom -- Google's in-house "dogfooding" tablet.

Glasses are a little annoying for a portable device, but at the least you know the quality will be good (ie not half-resolution, etc.)

Had it been announced that it uses active-shutter and give full-res 3D? Somehow I suspect a half-res polarized glasses solution. [EDIT: I forgot it is using NVIDIA Tegra2 -- I guess that implies active glasses and full-res 3D]
I think an auto-stereoscopic-3D screen (half-res 3D, switchable to full-res 2D) would be better ... it is about the same size as those auto-3D picture frames from Fuji etc. so the technology should be manageable.

And autostereoscopic techniques are not necessarily half-res, look at the Nintendo 3DS with its 400x240 resolution for each eye. You still loose half the resolution when considering the number of pixels of the screen (800x240), but the image for each eye still has a normal resolution in relation to the aspect ratio of the display.

This tablet is actually not 3D at all,
it uses anaglyph (arrgg!!!). So its as much 3D as the iPad or basically anything else out there. It does however have 3D camera, which is cool, but its a joke if you have to wear anaglyph glasses to view the pictures. I mean, anaglyph isn't horrible. I am indeed sending out free anaglyph glasses to people. But if they are marketing this as a 3D tablet it should have a 3D screen. End of story.

The video could be fake, I don't see anything that proves that this is real device. If it is real the device uses anaglyph glasses the it is really a stupid move from LG.

There are still twelve hours to go before Samsung unveils its new products at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, but somehow there are already a series of pictures allegedly "from the event." We're not complaining, though, because four of them show off the new 10.1-inch Galaxy Tab II. We discovered yesterday that Sammy's slate will run Android 3.0 Honeycomb at 1280 x 800 resolution and on a 1GHz processor, and heard rumors it'd have an 8 megapixel camera with HD video recording as well, but this is the first time we've laid eyes on a decent image of the tablet, and we imagine you're in the same boat.
