I've been interested in VR for quite some time, and was chatting about the history with someone who didn't know much about it. I recall there being a simulation/ride in the early nineteen hundreds, a stereoscopic film showing a tour of paris on a motorbike. It was peculiar because it supposedly released different scents to coincide with the locations in the film--perfume was definitely one of the scents.
I tried to google/bing it but have no luck. Does anyone remember the specifics of this event in history?

Yeah, I remember reading about that. I think it was discussed in the book "Virtual Reality" by Howard Rheingold. From what I found on Wikipedia, it appears the device was called the Sensorama was was invented in the 1950's. It is just a short page, however Rheingold went into greater detail in his book.
