quote formatting in newsitem comments

Will the CMS ever support proper formatting of quotes? As of now,
  • [ quote ] aaaaa [/ quote ] bbbb
translates to simple plain text formtatting,
  • Quote:
    aaaaa
    bbbb
which makes it incomprehensible when a large amount of text is quoted (see here for a newsitem and here for its corresponding forum posts).
