Presentation software for dual projector systems?

Post by DigiMagic »

Is there some software like MS PowerPoint or OpenOffice Impress, but 3D and works on dual projectors?

I plan to set up two projectors at home for watching movies, but it occurred to me that 3D might also be an interesting addition for meetings with partners and customers in the company where I work. Does software like this exist, or I would be limited to only displaying slides / static images in Stereoscopic player?

Judging by no replies at all, no one uses 3D for serious business? ;)

OK, what about games - according to http://www.mtbs3d.com/m3ga/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;, no games at all support dual projectors (or at least, so few that it wasn't worth adding as a category)?

I don't know of any presentation software for dual projectors. Most people here are probably gamers and are using the iz3d or TriDef drivers with their dual projectors.

Dual projectors are actually one of the most well supported solution today. Games themselves don't support dual projection (except a few which have native support and those usually include support for dual projection) but stereodrivers do. Tridef and iz3d are the most commonly used. To play older games you can use winxp and an old nvidiacard up to 7900. Don't know about any softs for presentation since i only use my rig for pleasure. ;)

Thanks everyone; Instant Effects looks good, I'll ask for trial. I've also found Dryfork, it uses OpenGL so it may work through stereodrivers. I'll probably test everything within next 1-2 weeks.

We will probably use Gainward/Nvidia 9500 (or was it 8500...) with passive cooling in demo machine at work, under Windows 7. I suppose that eliminates both older games and graphically demanding new ones. :? I guess I'll just have to go through MTBS list and see what works...

Dryfork is unusable :(

It takes very long time to load a presentation (I didn't measure, but it seems like few minutes, on a 2.4 GHz quad core, 8 GB), then again a very long time for each slide.
Some slides are pure 2D, some are 3D/OpenGL, and switching between two again takes time, lots of blinking on screen, and occasionally some totally unrelated minimized application gets put on top.
OpenGL is very slow, just few fps, even with most simple scenes.
Application often seems frozen. Clicking around easily activates editor mode (in a supposedly player-only release).

Maybe you don't have an accelerated OpenGL driver installed. Did you try an OpenGL game to see if it could come from the driver ?

No, don't have any at the moment, but I've tried several demos from nehe.gamedev.net and they all run nicely, reflective surfaces, lights, fog, textures, everything... It really looks too good and too fast to be software rendering.

Can you recommend some games that would be good demo material for 3D, once I get it running? Nothing too complex, need them to run on low-end/passive cooled graphics cards. Would Avatar work (liked the movie a lot, haven't seen the game)?

Avatar is great for showcase and not too hardware hungry. Same as for tomb raider legend+anniversary (next gen content off). Assassins creed is also great but have a little higher demands on the graphics. Shouldn't be any problems if turning some settings down though.
