Free hi-def 3D video production software from Medtron

Post by dbritta1 »

Free stereoscopic 3d software tools for professional high definition 3d video
production and viewing are available from:
http://medtron.org/default.aspx
Make3D is a Sony Vegas plug-in that creates hi-def 3D movies.
Play3D is a high definition 3D video player.
View3D is an advanced multi-format 3D photographic image viewer.
Dvd3D plays side-by-side and interlaced 3D DVDs.
Full support for Mitsubishi and Samsung 3D DLP TVs.
You can download high resolution stereoscopic 3D photographic test images
and high definition 3D video samples.
I have tested the Medtron 3D software using a dual core intel processor
with a Samsung 3D DLP tv and the 3d images were spectacular.
View3D's dynamic alignment and zoom features are worth trying out.

Neil,

I am trying to help people discover Medtron and the 3D tools.
http://medtron.org/products.aspx

Quote from Yahoo Tech Groups
photo-3d · True 3D (stereoscopic) imaging forum:

"My goal in creating Medtron.org is to enable anyone
to create professional quality 3D home movies,
and to provide 3D production tools to young videographers,
so that they will create 3D content.

I believe that the introduction of the 3D DLP TVs was the turning
point in bringing 3D to the masses. People will buy their TVs and
Blu-Ray players, and will enjoy 3D when the content becomes available.
We need to jump start 3D content creation and get as many people
involved as possible."

To answer questions about the "60 Day Trial Expiration":
http://medtron.org/licensing.aspx
"Medtron is not a profit driven organization, and will provide
free software license keys to individuals who want to use
the stereoscopic 3D software tools."

Ive tried make3d and found it very lacking and difficult to use. Alot of its features served no purpose other than to make editing in 3d a more time consuming process, and given the only thing lacking in current editing programs is the ability to preview stereo, the fact that it only gave an anaglyph preview was weak at best and can easily be accomplished by plugins offered in most editing suites.

As for the rest of the programs, most 3d monitors come with proprietary playback tools so im not sure why these programs exist much less how they manage to work at all.

Now if you can talk to nvidia and iz3d and make plugins for popular editing suites like premiere pro that allow for realtime playback of dual streams, then you could easily sell it for $$$ to independent editors and trump avid's current offering of stereo playback editing suite (at $10,000 no less).

The new nVidia glasses, drivers and apps for Vista make Dvd3D and Play3D obsolete.

However, your comments about Make3D are not constructive.

"Alot of its features served no purpose other than to make editing in 3d a more time consuming process"

The Make3D workflow for creating 3d productions using dual non-genlocked cameras has been optimized. Do you have a better solution? How does it handle camera synchronization and alignment issues?

"...given the only thing lacking in current editing programs is the ability to preview stereo, the fact that it only gave an anaglyph preview was weak at best and can easily be accomplished by plugins offered in most editing suites"

Which NLE editors allow real-time 3D previewing while editing dual streams?
