Question about Samsung 42 Inch 3D TV

Yes I have one.

I have some shutter glasses here that look EXACTLY like these...

...except for the part around the lenses is black instead of clear like the lenses and there is an extra piece of plastic across the bridge of the nose on the outside of the glasses.

Now here's the thing. When I am watching a video in 3D, there is a flicker in the lenses. It flickers about once a second or so, and yew can see the 3D effect actually CHANGE during that second in that the ghosting will gradually get worse and then after the flicker, it is gone but appears again over the course of the second. Like some kind of cycle.

Now I was never expecting miracles when I set this up (I am using Tridef), but I have to wonder if this is normal? For those who have a Virtual FX, I also have one and there is none of this happening on it. In fact I'd say it does 3D a heck of a lot better than the Tridef and lenses! Yet all my attempts at getting it to work on the Samsung have failed, only because we all know that's the way it has to be. (Though I have pondered whether or not one of those composite to HDMI converters would work? I have seen them for about 60 bucks. Might make an interesting experiment some day.)

So what I am wondering is if others of you experience this one second flicker, or if maybe I have bad lenses or a bad sync out?

I don't believe that is normal. It should look relatively flicker-free. You may be getting IR interference from, say, a florescent light. There could also be something wrong with the glasses. I would try turning all the lights off and removing/covering any other IR sources. If it still happens maybe try replacing the battery. If that doesn't work then get a new pair of glasses. I remember someone said those DLP glasses, although they look like the old ELSAs, use a different IR signal that gets less interference from modern devices (like your tv remote for example). Might be worth the investment.

Yeah I didn't think this was right. Watching in anaglyph (with expensive ultra kewl quadruple lens anaglyph glasses) it looks great on some things, but not others. When I converted Radar Men From the Moon to anaglyph in stereoscopic player, it was just about as about as perfect as it could get for a 2D conversion. (This was one of the movie serials converted to 3D. The other was Flash Gordon Conquers the Universe. I don't know of any others?)

These glasses ARE DLP glasses. The transmitter says DLP 3D on the top and it has a little red light that comes on when yew turn on the TV. It came with two pairs of glasses and it happens with both of them. So I am wondering if it is the glasses? I got these from ultimate3dheaven.

I will play with the idea of IR interference, though I have no idea what might be causing it? Maybe the air purifier? I'll check that.

Meanwhile, can someone recommend GOOD glasses? *Blink*

Doing research on this problem as I have been all day, the glasses appear to be ELSA Revelator clones.

...what I have is the set on the right. It has the IR receiver that yew see on the right, but lacks the stamp yew see on the left. Other than that stamp, they are pretty much exactly the same.

Since I have read many of yew have these and have not complained of this one second flicker, I wpuld guess there is something wrong with my setup somewhere.

But how do I find it? Is it the graphics card? Software? Transmitter? Glasses? VESA port? So many possibilities! ACK!

Just spotting this discussion. I won't be of much help solving your particular issue but i noticed you mentioning that the glasses were branded as "DLP glasses" or "DLP 3D".
Although the glasses you got should be working with your TV but I don't know what is going wrong with your setup, I just would like to inform you that since Texas Instrument completely screwed up the DLP3D branding when they introduced DLP-link, you can no longer trust the compatibility of anything just because it has the DLP 3D name on it, as two different systems incompatible with one another use the same name.

I got them at ultimate3dheaven. For like $119.00 or so. Transmitter and two pairs of glasses.

I think I can rule out the glasses being the problem because both pairs do exactly the same thing. But that could still be the transmitter. :
