LG 42PM4700 (Plasma)

Post by Chiefwinston »

I just gave this to my granddaughter for Christmas. It is a 42" plasma with active 3D glasses. This is not a LG Cinema 3D FPR display. I am not a fan of the Cinema 3D passive set-ups. Though I can see why some people would find that particular 3D display okay. The Blacks on this display are inky black and coloring is vibrant. The picture quality in 2D and 3D is really outstanding. This is whats called a smart TV by todays standards. It comes with many of the more popular internet apps- Facebook, YouTube, Netflixs, and many many more. The set also, comes with a wireless internet adaptor. I had it unboxed and up and running in less than an hour. I tried movies and gaming with a PS3. I found the 3D extremely good. I didn't have time to hook up my laptop with my AMD HD3D set-up. So I don't really know how difficult getting the PC running on the set will be. Though past experiences' with 3D HDTV's tells me its a little more trial and error with some frustration but does work well. And the price tag for me was $582 for the TV and another $50 for each pair of active glasses. So TV + 2 sets of glasses set me back $682. And I do feel for the display quality that thats a bargain. Also, the specs say this is a 720P display on the internet. This may be a mis-print. Because the TV shows a 1080P setting built into it. And the PS3 detects and says its displaying 1080P 2D and 3D content. I also did not see any ghosting in the few hours I've spent with the display. This TV does have a built in 2D to 3D converter. It sucks so disable it.

Merry Christmas

That's a nice price.

In terms of resolution, most any 720P display will accept a 1080P signal and just down-scale it. So just because the PS3 allows you to select 1080P does not mean the display is actually that quality.

It's a 1024x768 display, no wonder it's that cheap.

LG : http://www.lg.com/us/tvs/lg-42PM4700-plasma-tv
Amazon : http://www.amazon.com/LG-42PM4700-42-In ... B0074YRGGG

And from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High-definition_television :
1024×768 : Typically a PC resolution (XGA); also a native resolution on many entry-level plasma displays with non-square pixels.

Not even HD ready, so 2004... :P
