i have been doing some reading on the FOV and the consumer headsets available - 3D being the least of my priorities as of now.
What i found was that HMDs based on FOV the knowledge base is really scattered so i had to read a lot of stuff to compile the stuff
For VR - FOV 50+ is obviously desired but the choices are very limited unless one opts for 'Pro' gear which is above several thousand usd.

the HMDs listed are mostly avialble @ auction sites and are below usd$1000 range.

So for starters looking for headsets based on FOV they need - this list will of great help.
In fact it will save me time to get here and update easily when a new consumer HMD is around .

the LIST does not include pro headsets like pi sight / x sight etc as they are not for consumers.
this 'd prove to be a boon of info at one place - a good place to start hunting for HMDs [old/new]

facts :

1)From the above i found that for a decent fov 35 the choice are very limited
2)fov 30-32 is NOT nice just ok but plenty of choices for both 2D and 3D [old/new formats] capable as well
3)very limited development in the tech for fov > 50

I am looking for fov 35 and struggling to find a decent HMD with great optics [3D not important] - just for 2d
and I am surprised what a limited choice i have that too includes good ones and bad ones which gets the list trimmed further.

Finally - for VR - the scene looks depressing
great optics but bad ergonomics and vice versa
Still to wait for the 'KILLER' HMD for VR

For me finding a decent 2D headset with 35FOV is getting PITA.
vuzix 1200 is way too expensive only options are EVG920s
Olympus eye-trek fmd-150w [fov 40] has way too low resolution.

i think i am gonna try Fatshark rcv922 aviator edition [upgraded] with 46 fov - good news is that it can be powered from ac charger [supplied] and also with a lipo battery. lemme see what happens !

image seems vibrant not like found on most generic ebay glasses.

some question that always stuck my head, when reading about the hmz t1, where is the 51,6 D FOV comming from?
Sony has it in no techsheet, and they say themselves only 45 FOV, on their pages(asuming its horizontal, based on the pictures).

As it is nice to have it calculated, but can you also put in the mathematical proof, or a real source?

The FOV is 45° horizontal.
Considering a 16:9 display, the length of the diagonal is √(16²+9²) = 18,357559751 using the Pythagorean theorem.
By simple cross-multiplication it gives 18,357559751 * 45 / 16 = 51,63° for the diagonal FOV.

Behold ! Fatsharks coming with 35 FOV [classic]and 46FOV that too with SVGA res. soon this year.
So SVGA headset with 46FOV with optics the same as their dominator version will be the kill for Vuzix headset sans 3D .[#d not my priority]
so i dropped the idea of purchasing the aviator version.

finding an HMD with native 800x600 resolution is also so hard whether with or wiothout 3D support .
the only choices for consumer HMDs are - Headplays and emagin z800 - both now 2D HMDs as the latest 3D is not supported by either of them.

Can anyone recall any other 800x600 native resolution HMD - ?
