GameGrade3D is a Quality Assurance tool that is in continual development, and as new stereoscopic 3D games are submitted and MTBS completes game reviews, GG3D's scoring mechanism gets expanded and fine tuned.

Battlefield 3 was a unique case in that DDD's visual results were superior to their competitors because of the added stereoscopic 3D components (vehicles, round to round transitions, etc.), but they lost enough points with minor visual flaws that TriDef was incorrectly scored as inferior to the Nvidia 3D Vision and AMD HD3D outcomes.

I disagree with some new "features"

I don't think L/R rendered it's anomaly/issue, exaly I always play in L/R not R/L, so when game start in R/L I manual change on my tv from L/R to R/L or if they have options I change to L/R. So this is no anomaly/issue. If you can't swap/change to L/R it's not the game anomaly/issue, this is problem of USER/Gamer and his system/tv/monitors. So I think this options must remove from GG3D.

All others new features cool

Can i suggest another addition to the anomaly list? When playing a lot of first person shooters the gun intersects with the environment when you get to close to something like a wall for example. I remember the original Crysis had no clipping because the character would lift his gun when he got close to walls, but in Battlefield 3 the gun appears to poke into the wall.

Earmack:

I think the reversal error should remain because while you are an advanced gamer, most new S-3D gamers aren't. How much do you want to bet that BF3 reviews on HD3D were written not ever knowing the images were reversed?

Also, there are two classes of this error. If it can be corrected through software or hardware, then it's only 5 points. If you can't correct it at all, then it's 100%. In the case of BF3, there are no options in the game to fix the problem, and not all displays give you the option to reverse the images - it's a serious issue.

Fasty: That's a tough one. Since stereoscopic 3D drivers extrapolate a left/right view, it's not in their power to fix this. There could also be a dependence on your game settings to make this error appear. As game developers advance in this area and it's fixed on a regular basis, then we can add this score.

Regards,
Neil

That's true. I feel like it's only really relevant if the game has native 3d support or claims to be 3d ready in some way. I wouldn't expect 3rd party driver manufacturers to be able to do much about it. I was disappointed to find that black ops had this problem on PS3 too.

Neil:

I disagree it's not problem and not issue/anomaly, but u boss.

If I whanna be the world champion in formula 1, and can't it's not the F1 problem it's mine and no one else.

It's like If I don't have car licence to driving car, it's only my problem, and no one esle, so I must going to examen, learn rules ect....

But it's just my opinion

Hi Earmack,

I don't think I'm explaining the severity of the problem properly.

There is a standard expectation of a left view going to the left eye, and the right view going to the right eye. If that doesn't happen, the 3D is screwed - no other way of putting it.

In the case of the HD3D version, EA got the images reversed. The software (Battlefield 3) doesn't give you the ability to swap the L/R views to the correct order. Yes, we are very lucky that many displays give you the ability to swap from the display itself at a hardware level, but this isn't true of ALL displays. So while you and I may be happy with our 3D result, someone out there isn't because the game either wasn't programmed with the correct 3D viewing order and they didn't know, or they did know, but couldn't fix the problem. This is why it's an error.

If Battlefield 3 had the images reversed and the game itself had a menu option to let you swap the images yourself (because different displays can actually reverse the images differently), then this wouldn't have been an error.

Regards,
Neil

If the images are reversed and there is not an easy way to fix them (in the game) then this is a TOTAL FAIL. I completely agree the game should get zero points.

Hi Neil,

I understand u but can't agree becasue I think this is not anomaly/issue (already talk about this above).

Like example I can manual switch l/r or r/l....so why I must add penalty points for this if I received right pictures? it's not my problem the some users don't have supports tv/monitors.

I think this can be somethink special in "General section" like WARNING: game have l/r default render (0 Points)....something like that. Maybe even all red color...
"game have l/r default image and if you don't have support tv/monitor u must upgrades ect.(0 points) ect" or you message can be whatever you whan but PENALTY must be 0 = 0 points.

Any game or driver that locks important settings, or have a really inferior 3d-method (2d+depth and similar) deserves high loss of points because the cut of immersion (which imo is all what s-3d is about).
I'd personally like an option to invert L/R at any time in both driver as well as a game that supports native 3d. It's a good education and gives everybody a quick and useful experience on how 3d is suppoused to look like when done correctly (to rid the phenomena when people thinks something looks like "ok 3d" just because the image is scewed).
I didn't participate in the poll but basically i'd probably say it's a tough call due to the reality we live in. Native 3d is not equal to a good and anomalyfree experience (which it should be) and many times gives a worse experience than gaming through a stereodriver. It's up to the game and it's developers.
In some cases native s-3d implementation in games follows the same line as for movies: Shallow and/or "fake" 3d is good...

It's a major anomaly. It's a bug because the game developer is putting out a game IN REVERSE, and they are forcing their customers to not only discover the problem on their own, but to fix it outside the game's design. When you watch 3D movies, do you have to wear your glasses upside down (that would fix it...should the movie theater get a good review)? When you watch 3D Blu-Rays, do you have to fiddle with menus to reverse the images on your TV (that would fix it...do you think the BluRay player maker is honoring the BluRay standard)?

It's a bug.

Neil
