Well it is expensive, but I don't think its outrageous. I paid more than that for my 22" Zalman (although that was 3 years ago). This 27" comes with the Nvidia glasses. A similar bundle for a 23" monitor costs $500. I don't think a $200 markup is outrageous to go from 23" to 27", not to mention the added support for HDMI 1.4. And remember this is also a 120Hz display, its not like 3D is the only feature. Granted, it would be great if it were cheaper, but you could say that about anything.

Yes it has value in the $350-$425 price range. They'll sit in warehouses at $700.

I would say it is worth it, if you have the money. Have you ever priced out a cheap 27" monitor, Chiefwinston? They go for $300-$350 on the LOW end, as in low end, small brand panels with mediocre specs. Nvidia 3Dvision glasses are $150 now with the recent price drop, so that puts the cost of a low end 27" and the glasses at $450-$500. Considering that Acer makes much nicer monitors than say, A-Star or Hannspree, I would say that $550-600 would be a good price, with $700 only being a little bit high. Certainly not a rip off.

That said, I really hope the new Vizio FPR sets get good reviews.

6 months from now they'll be on sale for $450. You'll see. Besides, I do consider them to be a low end quality brand like the off brands you listed palmertech. I've never consider Acer high quality.

Don't take it the wrong way guys. I'm strongly considering adding a triple monitor set-up to my ultimate 3d game room. So an exagerrated high price will multiply by 3 for my plan. I'm moving toward having a 50" plasma 3D HDTV with a PS3 and having a kick ass PC powering a triple monitor arrangement. I'm close to pulling the trigger for this addition. Unless of course a nice HMD for around 2G's becomes avialable soon. Which is hard to tell if it will be this year or 10 years from now.

cheers

Yeah this monitor is nice and the bigger size would be wonderfull since I still have a 22''. Probably won't buy it till I win the lottery though. I would much rather have a 37 inch 1080p 3d hdtv with a dvi-d dual link and hdmi 1.4a conection for $700.

I have the same problem. I just purchased one of these monitors for $683 shipped from Amazon. I want 3DVS, but three 27" are $2000, whereas three 24" are $1000. I have enough for two more, but the problem will be building a system to support 768Mpps. For now I'll be holding off on building a new PC, but I'll see how some console games and old PC games work with the monitor and post my thoughts.

Howard Rheingold wrote in Virtual Reality that VR could be mainstream and hi-fi in twenty years. That was in 1991. There should finally be an affordable, highly immersive HMD available within the decade. Of course, it could've already happened, but didn't. But I really don't see how it could take more than ten years. The tech is finally maturing, like OLED microdisplays. The mainstream appeal of AR may drive it. I don't expect anything earlier than five years out, though. I'm just excited to know I'll live to see the Matrix, around midcentury.

Yep, I read the Rheingold book back when it was new and you would think by now we would have full 360 degrees HMDs and full-body force-feedback suits. What happened?

I would advocate against this for a triple monitor setup; each one has its own emitter built-in, so you'd be paying for that three times. Who knows what happens if their timing is slightly off from each other!

You might have to duct tape the top of two of the monitors.

I asked this same question over at nvidia surround forum and apparently there are no problems with the 3 emitters.
