Stereo drivers perform rather well in general, and iz3d is known because of this, but it can be catastrophic in certain games. As before, all you can do is to try a different games with different engines to see if there is any difference. Also, search the iz3d forum about the games you want to play to see if there are specific settings or tricks to make them run fine.

I just don't know all this story that exists with z800's firmware versions. I can't help any further with this. All I know is that mine has the same firmware version than yours and it works as expected. Maybe misinformation about a magic firmware version has became a myth with time and is causing some confussion.

Feel free to ask if you have more doubts. And remember to experiment with stereo settings (but keep separation low when using the z800) in these firsts attempts to get an idea of how they work. If the game allows it, try to change the field of view, too. The effect can be quite interesting with small FOV's and high convergence. Maybe not useful for gaming though, but nice to look around for a while when there are no enemies around.

In the future things may be a lot easier if nvidia frees the generic shutters output again, or iz3d releases a fully functional shutters support. Or both. We will see.

I have tried 3 different game and the fps remaining at 30 max.
Now i would test whit nvidia graphic card. For the separation i have set it to 18% and 0,03 convergence.
for now all right. Do you know if there is a patch for Second Life? tnku

Maybe is that vsync is on and locking fps. But it should be locked at 60. I'm not sure.

I don't like second life very much. I'm not very social I guess. Only tried it several years ago before my S-3D era.

I'm thinking of picking these boys up.
But, how is the experience?

800x600 sounds very low, but since there is actually two pixels for one 2d pixel and the brain mixes these two into one pixel. Doesnt that make the 800x600 feel like more?
Also, how often does the drivers get out of sync? I have a GTX295 with Windows 7.

Has iz3d announced that they will have native support for z800 in the future, or is it only wishful thinking from z800 fanboys?

Thanks in advance

cybervillian since both of the displays in a head mounted display are showing a similar image (with slightly different views) the resoloution is not doubled. Each eye sees 800x600 but the 3d image is also 800x600.

If you compare hmds to any interleaved format (DLP, zalmon) with the same resoution then yes they will have double the pixels.

What is a fact is that the image is nowhere as ugly as what you can see at the monitor when it's showing the same that you see at the z800.

So yes, although 800x600 is still too low, it looks a lot better in the z800 that one would expect.

What used to be said at the defunct z800 forum is that it is similar to an antialiasing effect because the "teeth" for the same border in each display are not the same due to the slightly different perspective.

It has been a long time since a last post, so has there happend any improvement with the drivers? I have 64-bit Win7 and GF7600Gt graphic gard. In device manager EMax is yellow labeled and I can't get rid of it. Is it impossible to get 3D work with this system? Or what should i do to get it work out? My controlbox's partnumber is xxx-03xxx, so does it have the newest firmware?

Off hand, you should likely go back to XP, perhaps setting up a dual boot system. Unless you were a late(r) adopter, you likely have the older firmware. Did you buy it used? The newer firmware came on a chip that someone would have replaced, but they may have sold some with it pre-installed.

Sorry to bother you again with this problem but I'm getting crazy.
I've mounted xp to have no problem.
I have a Quadro FX 550.
I've tried to mount nvidia 78.01 as suggested from emargin but is not possible for quadro, so I tried 91.31 as suggested from the german reseller but nothing.
I've tried the newest iZ3D (1.13(5443)) but still I'm not able to run nothing even if someone is able.
The funny (?) thing is that I was able few months ago but I don't know what happen and now I can not see any 3D.

Suggestions?

Thanks in advance

@ Cool2Z: If your running XP, with a 7600, I highly suggest running the 162.50 drivers.
They work with multiple CPU (GPU? cant remember) systems unlike the 91x drivers. Just install the 162 drivers and the equivalent version of the Nvidia stereo drivers. 162 doesn't work fully with a couple of old games (BF2 being the main one) but for 90% of the games I found it much better.

Thanks for your reply,
actually I have a couple of cards. The reseller told me to use a Quadro so I had from a friend an FX 550. At the beginning I had an an 9800GT that is taking dust.
btw... I have a 32bit xp :(
I still don't understand.
The german assistance told me that 64bit (both wx and 7) doesn't work:
"Z800 3DVisor is not compatible with any 64-bit OS, neither XP nor Win7. The
reason is the built-in headtracker."
Should I install the 64bit version? xp or 7?
If is it possible to run in a 64bit solution for me should be even better for other reasons.
I didn't update that computer to be able to use the emargin, but now is not longer working and I need a solution.
Btw, I used both 162.50/162.50 and 173.68 + 162.50 stereo but without success... well even worst because now I can't see anything on the hmd. When I start the computer the red light starts.

Bye

Would it be a problem for you to buy a Geforce 7900 card? That is the newest card that will be supported with those old XP drivers.

I'm completely lost,
just to understand, if you're suggesting me the 7900 why the 9800 i have is not good?
and, most of all, I've been able to see something with the Quadro I have but now is not longer working.
:(

The 7900 is the last model of graphic cards supported by the old NVIDIA stereo driver on XP, the 9600 GT is not supported by this driver. You can use any model from the 7 series, the 7950 GT seems to be the most powerful in this serie.

Perfect,
I've just checked the driver products supported from the 162.50 and the Quadro FX 550 is there. So it should be fine?
I can take the another board but I don't want to make another error.

thanks for all your support.

I suppose it may work with your Quadro FX 550, the only way to know would be to try...

Keep in mind that this GPU is a lot less powerful than top of the line series 7 GeForce GPUs though. Also Quadro GPUs aren't really optimized for game performance so the results could be disappointing depending on what you want to run on it. Even more in stereo 3D, with performances that are halved in most games because of the dual rendering.

Comparison of Quadro FX 550 (same chip than GeForce 6600LE) vs GeForce 7950 GT :
- Core clock : 360 MHz vs 550 MHz
- Memory clock : 400 MHz vs 700 MHz (1400 MHz effective)
- Memory size : 128 MiB vs 512 MB
- Memory type : 128-bits vs 256-bits
- Memory bandwidth : 12.8 GiB/s vs 44.8 GB/s

I guess you should easily find a 7950 GT or something equivalent for well under $50 refurbished if the performances are not satisfying though.

Thank you so much for all your help guys!
Actually I have not to run a game in a proper sense.
I'm building an experiment in AR for psychophysiological purposes.
So I would like to ask you another question.
I've developed the experiment in Unity.
As far as I've understood I have not to care about the stereoscopy cause is managed by the drivers. But this is for what is plotted by the unity part.
Right now I've the question about the video sources.
Do you think that if I take a stereo cam (like Minoru) I could achieve a stereo video too?
that could be great!
but, if so, I should give the dual source for the videos... how the drivers manage this?
Hope is clear (cause is not so clear for me too :-))

take care

You can play 3D videos in various formats with the Stereoscopic Player. You will set it into "Nvidia" mode and then the driver will handle the page-flipping in order to show it on the HMD. Software page-flipping may also work, though may not be 100% reliable. The Minoru can record in side-by-side mode, and you can play that back with the Stereoscopic Player.

Yep, those guys are all correct. 7900 (actually 7950) is the best card you can get for the old drivers. Unfortunately the 8xxx/9xxx series is not supported ;-(

Re running 64 bit, I'd avoid it. I run 64 bit, but they have made significant ways to the way drivers work in 64 bit. This means that many useful apps with unsigned drivers will not work without some hassle (such as PPJoy).

Generally speaking, you will notice no greater performance from 64 bit, and will have increased hassles running certain apps and stuff you need.

64-bits is great if you are running a modern rig with Windows 7, a new graphics card, etc. If you are trying to use a legacy setup with XP stick with 32-bits.

Hi guys,
just for your knowledge I've been able to see a stereo image with the z800 with the following configuration:
win 7 32 bit
nvidia 8400gs (with latest driver 280.26... the stereo are built in now)
and forcing the 3D with LabTool from emargin.

actually it was quite easy :)

take care

as far as I've tried no...
I just been able to see stereo video with stereoplayer forcing the 3D with labtools.
I hope the 7950 is coming soon!
A funny thing is happening.
I have 2 computers were I'm running this configuration: one at home with an 8400gs and win7, another in university with a 9800gt and win xp.
On both I downloaded the latest drivers but only in the one at home with win7 the "Stereoscopic 3D" options are available.
When I tried to run a game I did in Unity on the computer I have at home (win7) the application started in anaglyph!!! funny :)

Nvidia still does support anaglyph mode with 2D displays, but only on Vista/7 which is why it would not work on XP.

Hi all,
finally this morning I had the 7950.
I uninstall the old (newer) driver (with Driver Cleaner).
Installed the 162.50 (and stereo too)
but I'm not seeing the stereo options inside the nvidia control panel!

I've tried to run a game (half life 2) to test it with emargin, but it runs in 2D.

Here when I get from nvidia:

By default only the new NVIDIA panel is shown, not the old NVIDIA panel with stereoscopic settings. Have a look here to activate it :

It's probably because you've some files from previous version of the drivers conflicting with the new ones. Try to properly uninstall all of them in the Windows control panel then reinstall the 162.50 driver, reboot, and install the 162.50 stereo driver and reboot. Then you can try again the registry modifications and reboot (yes, again). I had to do this last time when I installed these drivers, they are very picky about their environment.

Effectively I found something inside the in control panel (even if I used the uninstaller from the device manager and Driver Cleaner)...
So I did again all the steps you suggested... but I'm still unable to see the stereo options.
Another funny thing is that even if I have the OS in English and I downloaded english drivers the nvidia control panel is in Italian (and only this, because the other info are in english) :-O

Do you at least see the old control panel instead of the new one ?

It should look like that without stereo options :

And like that with stereo options :

At the end I was able to see that panel... but to run it in stereo I have in any case to force it with labtools.
But at the end the stereo is arrived!

Thanks to all you guys!!!
