IDF's certainly delivered a few bombshells thus far, but sometimes it's the simpler things that can brighten up your day, like DisplayLink's announcement of its snappily-titled Winstars USB 3.0-to-HDMI adapter. Making use of all that extra bandwidth means using TVs as monitors no longer results in battling with a bad case of the jaggies. Running on its DL-3500 chip, the plug-in device will deliver resolutions up to 2560 x 1600, promising ultra-low latency and less of the jittery window and cursor movement which has troubled older products. Gamers will be pleased to hear that there is support for full-screen 3D, as well as both 2.1 and 5.1 channel audio. No word on a release date as of yet, but we're guessing that the estimate of "soon" means that Yanks will see it by Christmastime. Full PR after the break.

That doesn't make sense. How can you play 3D games (even non-stereo) if its not output from the video card. Probably looks like crap.

I think they are talking about world of warcraft or games like that, i bet mostly just for movies. But it must means that there is gonna be 2560x1600 monitors that mirror to another display like a 3dtv. Maybe it does 120hz too.

It's always nice to see HDMI parts with true 340 MHz clock (8.13 Gbit/s of bandwidth) at last, after the HDMI 1.3 specification has been available for only 5 years. (Sarcasm).

As for the mention of 2560x1600 (or 2560x1440) over HDMI, this is totally superficial. All recent display devices capable of such resolutions ( including Dell Ultrasharp 3008WFP, Dell Ultrasharp U3011, HP ZR30w, HP LP3069, HP ZR2740w and Apple 27" LED Cinema Display ) only support them through either dual-link DVI or DisplayPort - which actually lived up to the promise and delivered 8.64 Gbit/s, and is now capable of double the bandwidth to support 2560x1600 in 120 Hz frame sequential stereo.
