why do non gaming 3d applications not work in stereo ?

Post by rogerharris »

Everything has been working fine on my stereo setup game wise but when i use applications that utilize direct X and open Gl such as 3d modellers, 3d desktops etc I can never active 3d mode using Nvidia stereo drivers.

I thought it was the projector / glasses setup so set Nvidia panel to output in anaglyph. Still no joy (except for games and Nvidia demo test).

can any 3d application utilizing direct X and open Gl can be switched to go 3d ?

thanks

Roger

I read on the Dolphin forums (Nintendo Gamecube and Wii emulator) that Nvidia 3d vision requires the application to use exclusive full screen mode and will not work in a window.

iZ3D works in a window (I did not try DDD).
Disable 3D Vision and try iZ3D in anaglyph mode (free) to see if it works.

Also most professional applictions use OpenGL to render their viewports, this makes both 3D vision, DDD and iZ3d unable to work.
Some professional applciation have an integrated Stereoscopic 3D mode called OpenGL-Quadbuffer (OpenGL-QB) this is an industry standard but only works with professional hardware (Nvidia Quadro, ATi FireGL, and professional 3D displays)

Yeah, Nvidia 3D drivers only work in full-screen applications (like games). IZ3D drivers will work in windowed mode, but I have never tried them with a 3D modeling package. That would be pretty cool though.
