A friend of mine has managed to get his hands on the "German" 3DBD of Avatar, heres some low-resolution screen grabs he just sent me to prove it was real (As I can't find anything on the net about it being released anywhere!)

Is it deanaglyphed in some way since both eyeviews have different sharpness and light? And no, there's still no official release of avatar what i know.

Here are high-res screenshots in the Above/Below format. Pop-out on the arrow in the first pic! It looks real to me, and quality is pretty good. This BluRay leak it very interesting then, just where the hell did your friend get his copy from ? Does he work at some Panasonic factory ? (which I believe they'll get the exclusivity for a few months)

My friend wasn't the one who leaked it, he simply managed to get hold of the 720p 15GB Leak. It unfortunately has German Audio, so anyone who gets hold of it will have to replace it with English Audio and sync it. I'm not sure if I'm allowed to disclose the location it can be found at publicly here.
But anyways, this "leak" will do me fine until the full BluRay 3D disk comes out for all of us to buy (I'm hating these bundles!!)

Dito. I'll get this with any means necessary but when the original shows up for all others i'll be first in the queue for my own original copy. I have absolutely no respect or concerns about these exclusives for bundles...

I found it... hint : 1st of july downloading the sample file to test it for myself before downloading the whole thing. edit : there also seems to be an other one in English but which was released two months ago. it's 18GB but I haven't tested. That's quite a long download just to test it out.

1st of July is correct. But remember you'll need to dub and sync English Audio to it which is made hard by the video being NTSC and most audio sources being PAL.

Right, I got the sample and it looks like the real thing : the sample is the firsts 4 minutes of the movie and it does include the one shot with the ridiculously overseparated/overconverged cameras (when Sully is being extracted from the cryo bed)... except the sample is badly reencoded and contains some chineese subtitles at some point (hacker signature ?) and it just flickers all the time. Does your full version also do that or is it just the sample ?
I'll give a try to the older file instead, it claims it's english, so it's probably the source for the video on which the german audio what added.

Older file? Is it 720p Over/Under as well? Mind PMing me the details of it.
My version doesn't flicker. I haven't got the sample file though. I have the Chinese subs as well at the FOX logo. I haven't watched more than 5 minutes of it so far though.

The older file does not mention the resolution, so i'm trying to see what it is. My guess is that it's also 720p, probably the exact identical video stream as the german one, just with the english audio, but I've got to try to be able to give an answer

For the size of the other version it's probably a even better copy. Let us know if it has those Chinese Subs and is the real deal as well.

I got the file here and tested, Addict3D beat me to give the answer. This file is a Chinese Theatre cam video (Standard Theatre, not IMAX version) with BluRay audio. It is real 3D though : it was shot through glasses. The original file has Chinese BluRay audio, the new one has just the audio replaced with the German BluRay audio.
Both files show the Chinese hacking group signature in overlay over the video. The movie length is the correct theatre 24fps length however the cameras used for the screener only shoot at 29.97fps and the theatre uses a 144Hz shutter system (RealD, Dolby or Xpand, but not Sony4K) which explains the visible flicker throughout the movie (camera shutter and theatre shutter are not synchronized) similar what happens when filming a CRT monitor with a camera the screen brightness varies quickly over time.

Watchable maybe for you... for me that sample just keeps punching my eyes I can't watch it. I'm used to having a display that does not flicker, I don't want any more.

Maybe I have no flicker because I converted it to 24fps? (Effectively smoothing the video)

I depends mostly on your framerate conversion algorithms but I don't think you removed it completely when you converted your file.

Can you a point out a specific scene with the flickering? I'm seriously not seeing any. Source was the 15GB German version so maybe they took care of the flickering? And does any one want the English Audio? Syncing is a hard and very time consuming process.

A particular scene that has flicker ? Well yes, the entire movie ! just open your eyes you'll see it even when watching the file over/under in a 2D video player. The brightness constantly change, I just have to watch 10 seconds to see it.

I opened up the original in MPC:HC and yes I can see a tiny bit of flicker on White backgrounds. Heres a clip from later on in the movie, as you'll see it has no flickering at all! (There is a scene change towards the end) http://rapidshare.com/files/407633788/Part18.avi

I have the 15gb version and there is flickering throughout most of the movie. I haven't watched it in it's entirety but I skipped through many scenes. After about a half hour I completely stopped noticing it, but obviously not everyone can cope with it and it could be an issue that makes the film unwatchable. I noticed it seemed particularly intense in the opening narration when they show the first shot of Pandora framed against the planet it orbits. It's also skippy and muddy for a few of the night scenes and action scenes, at least on my PC. In my opinion though, it is very watchable to get a taste of Avatar in 3D until some official release comes who knows when.

I got my english audio from my 2D version of the movie, I picked up the subtitle tracks at the same time. You need to apply a delay and a linear stretch : either 29.97/30.00 on the audio, or the opposite 30.00/29.97 on the video. It took me a few tries to find the right delay but eventually I nailed it.
On annoying thing though : the subtitles do not work in stereoscopic player Zalman edition but they work in iz3d MPC, which does not support my display.... crap I wish iz3d would update it to support all displays.

I have a mits L75a91, 3DA-1 adapter and a panasonic dmp-bdt300. This combo works great for 3d blu-ray movies. I used DvdFab8 bluray ripper to create a 9.8gb mp4 avatar video (with subtitles of the navi in english). I then converted it to 3d side by using arcsoft media converter 7. I then imported the side by side into sony vegas pro 10 and rendered the output to a 1920x1080 3d bluray 22.5gb. I now watch avatar in 3d. It is as good as imax or real-d. kick ass.

I have watched both the Chinese early release (8GB) and the latest full extended Panasonic release (50GB).
The Chinese release was hard to watch, so blurry, although the 3D looked fine.
The Panasonic release is quite simply, breathtaking.
Absolutely zero crosstalk, a picture quality that is unsurpassed and almost every single second is blatantly 3D.
EDIT: Watched it on a Samsung PS50C6900 via PowerDVD and a GTX460 using native frame-packing mode.

A version called Avatar 3D Half-SBS.mkv came out a couple of days ago at 12.86gb. Its 720p and the 3d is perfect.
Flipping amazing on the pjd6531w. Really got butterflies at the first banshee flight scene~!
