hi guys! i have built my own ddr pad for pc.
it is based on other tutorials found ond hte web, but modified and works perfectly.
basically what i copied is the wooden frame, the rest is my own version, its very silent and can be used at home without having the neighbours screaming at you
this is the basic project:
you see the wooden frame on the bottom, the four buttons, only one is completely assembled. four springs, the hole is for the led spot, the white foily ou see around the hole is an aluminium foil, and the same foil is glued under the plexyglass. one of the springs touches the upper foil and when you press the butotn the two foils touch each other. the metal edges in the corner are those used for travel-bags to protect the edges. the controls are made with the chip of a USB keyboard, so you can configure the keys ingame.. actually there is front, back left right and enter esc on the front (not visible in this image).
this is the wooden frame:
electrics scheme for the lights. (signal comes from the pc trough a selfmade visual basic application with a keyhook)
dancepad in action at night: (lights are off when you hit the button)

Ok this thing is quite advanced staff to build, and seems to be nice - if you can use it properly
I looked at the circuit and am curious to know, what the coil does? Is it doing the 'blinking'?
Or is it saving the energy until the right step is done?
And how does this program know what 'button' is pressed? From that circuit it looks, as if you could hit any 'button'...

the coils are the relais. so the symbols are not correct and the image is 4 years old..
the relais power only the light, according to the signal coming out from the printer port.
the signal is sent out by a software which has a keyhook, and controls which keys are pressed. based on the key another output combination is sent out. the signal of the pressed buttons goes to the pc trough the usb cable of the control chip of a usb keyboard. having the light signal coing from the pc is better, because you know if for any reason the signal is not going to the pc.. timing is very crucial in this game.. its a matter of milliseconds.
so the actual connection is like this:
Dancepad -------(usbwire)------ PC -------(printerwire) ------ Dancepad light control unit.
