Hey there guys,

I got my nvidia 3D Vision yesterday. After several hours of trying and struggling I didn't even get the 3D effect working at all w:( :?: :?: I mean I expected ghosting and other little problems, but not that it won't work at all! My beamer is the Acer H5350 720p and accepts up to 85Hz over vga and over DVI for some reason up to 120Hz.
After the installation and configuration of 3D Vision I always get an error "failed to create d3d device" or "invalid video mode". The only thing I can still start for testing is that picture where the Nvidia Logo is moving around. There, 3D is on (USB Device is light green), but I only get flickering and no 3D effect at all. The glasses seem to work as they keep one eye shut when I hold the button of the glasses.

Does anybody has any tips why it doesn't work at all? I'm very sad cause I was so excited to "feel" the 3D effect.

Looking forward to an answer & Greetings
JanOrz

"over DVI for some reason up to 120Hz"
forget it

yes, maybe it can accept up to 85Hz, but also projected at 85Hz?
My infocus dont :(

Thanks for your quick answer relaxman. Unfortuantely I'm not sure about the refresh rate...But what do you mean with "My infocus dont"? Do you also get no 3D Effect at all with your Infocus? If so my post will be solved and it just doesn't work hardwarewize.

Are you sure the projector is capable of displaying 3D? Not all DLP projectors can apparently and I don't see your model in Andrew Wood's list of 3D compatible projectors. :(

http://www.3dmovielist.com/projectors.html

Otherwise try a lower resolution...800 x 600 at 85 Hz of VGA.

Or try at native resolution but 60Hz.
And switch off any ambient light :)

3D Vision only really works with the supported displays. Although I have heard some users managed to get it to work with generic DLP projectors, this is very rare and probably a good 95% or more of the models available on the market will not work. I can't say for sure if that model you have could work, but chances are that it won't.

In 2006 we tested 45 consumer DLP projectors for frame-sequential 3D compatibility.
We found quite a number that would do 85Hz frame-sequential 3D, but only XGA resolution projectors (or lower).
We found some 1280x720 projectors that would do 60Hz frame-sequential 3D, but none would do 85Hz.
My guess of the chance of your projector doing 60Hz frame-sequential 3D is about 50% and the chance of it doing 85Hz frame-sequential 3D is about 0.0001%.

Hey guys thanks a lot for your feedback. I think unfortuantely my acer H5350 doesn't work with 3D at all for the following reason:
Quote:
Regarding Table 2, some projectors were totally incompatible with time-sequential 3D video in all video modes and all video connections. This was generally due to the frame output of the projector not synchronizing with the incoming video signal. In most cases where this happened the input video signal was resampled to the native frequency of the projector (usually ~60Hz) – this resampling process usually destroys the 3D video signal.

I have tried a lot: HDMI and VGA, different resolutions und framerates, but not even once I got any 3D-Effect, I only saw the two pictures of the right and left at the same time. Damnit!

On the one hand it is my fault, because I haven't noticed that there are some beamers which totally don't work, but on the other hand it's really a huge shame that no company is capable of producing shutter glasses or rather a driver for the shutter glasses which you can tweak for your display :shutter It can't be technically impossible :?: Whatever, the next FullHD Projector will definitely be a 3D-compatible one :) :shutter

Somebody has infos about the 3D DLP Link technology from Benq?
For. eg. the MP626 has this, and says that t he source is a 120Hz signal, but the projected output is
only 85Hz max (projectorcentral.com).
So is this a simple 85Hz shutter method, or Benq has something new internal?

Support for the 5360 was just added to version 1.15 beta drivers. Don't know if they will work for you 5350 but may be worth a shot...

The other option is to try another set of cheaper shutter glasses. I have the Extreme 3D system which you can get from Underground Movies for around $30. They have their own dongle and the 3D works over VGA..I'm talking 3D movies using Stereoscopic Player not games though. I get mine to work perfectly with the Infocus X1 and comparing the specs between this and the Acer H5350, I can't see much noticeable different apart from the colour wheel speed which may be the problem....worth the risk for $30 though and you get a spare pare of wired shutter glasses. If you have a CRT monitor, the 3D will definately work with one of these too.

I get the feeling that the 3D vision system is much more specific and "fussy" in what it works with.

Dear Andrew, in your projector-list seem to be discrepancies:
ACER H5360 is in factory sheet not before Dec 2009 available with 120 Hz,
ACER X1261 has also only 85 Hz instead of the listed 120 Hz
VIEWSONIC PJD ...-3D have often only 85 Hz, but the not listed 6221 is described with 120 Hz. What is correct?

Hello RimiBS,
I listed the Acer and Viewsonic projectors based on information from the manufacturers and NVIDIA.
I too have noticed that the specifications for some of these products do not list the 120Hz capability. I suspect that this is to do with the documentation not being updated quickly - The 3D capability is a fairly recent addition. It may also be that the projector can do 120Hz in 3D mode - but not in 2D mode (2D may be limited to 85Hz).
The information I provide on the 3Dmovielist website is provided in good faith that the information I have been provided is correct. I only list new projectors when I am reasonably confident about the information provided, however, I'm not able to independently test every projector, so it is possible for there to be errors.
If you are interested in a particular projector and want to be reassured about the 3D capability, I suggest you contact the manufacturer.
If you do find anything which contradicts my list, please let me know.
