forum changes

Post by sharky »

hi guys!

sorry all if some things did not work how they should, i am fixing some problems right now.

the skin is a bit slow, i am fiking that too, saving the bigger image files in a lower quality (no differences visible)... first thing to fix is our logo wich is a bomb..

i hope to finish all today. the skin selection has to be forced for some days.. then you can select wich one you want.

meanwhile i am going to mod the old one too to have it suetable for opening in a window. :)

the logo at the top left opens the main page in a new window (in case you closed it...) to go back to the root of the forum click on "meant to be seen forum index" just under the logo. with this mod you can also see teh category listed there.. so if you are in a discussion you can go back to the category instead of having to go back to the root.

please report ANY bug here. don't think that there are any others then the ones i mentioned but if there are please write it here and i fix it. thank you

sorry for any inconvenience..

bye

ok i keep you up to date so you can tell me if the changes i applied helped to make the site faster...

up to now:

1) logo in a gif format instead of tiff.. (was only a test logo) reduced from 44kb to 10 kb.

2) set mtbs banner as second banner. the banner is 250 kb and that slowed down everything.. now it should have 10 seconds to load. i am going to replace that one with a smaller, and shorter one. else if on every page-load we load 300kb ous site bandwith goes to hell with all the activity we have.. :)

i have put online another temporary banner.. to speed the whole thing up a bit.. reduced the size from 250 kb to 49...

the total page size has been reduced from 270 kb to 59.. should be fast enough now.. i tried to disable the banner rotation script to be shure that the script itself is not slowing things down, but it had no changes on the speed. i noticed that the mainpage speed is also slow so i would wait for a day when the server is less loaded to che ck the speed.

ah i forgot, i made the whole forum 10% brighter for the eyes.

Hey Sharky, nice work on this!

I may be a nag, but the blue+dark grey sometimes is hard to read..
It sure is alot fancier than the old style, but to me personally it seems a tad less readable..

I much perfer these forums but I have to agree with Jahun on the dark blue text. It's very hard to read, maybe if it was a bit lighter or even white. All in all though the forums have a very professional look! Nice job!

ok modded the old template too.. and removed the forcing of the new template..

now if somebody should still see the old one he can select the new one (acid tech)in the profile.

it can happen that somebody who never logged while the new one ws forced still sees the old one. simply change it in your profile..

Hm yesterday I had the (dark) acid tech, which looks/looked quite dark. However when I logged in today I had the old one at first. I don't know if that was intended...

I like it, that you can choos your style
