3D Film Factory Makes Breakthrough in 3D Conversions

The 3D Film Factory, a company specializing in 3D technologies, is now the exclusive, worldwide licensee of 3inD software, a highly developed 2D to 3D stereoscopic image conversion process. Conceived using a new paradigm, the program actually recreates 2D images (video, film & stills) in a 3D space.

I am still rather skeptical on any automatic 2D->3D conversion, especially on static images. However it is interesting to hear there is progress in the area. On the site they have 2 anaglyph images supposedly made with their software, but who knows. It also looks like they are just doing contract work and not actually selling the software. They've also got some camera rigs for sale if thats of interest to anyone.

Whether you’re planning to shoot a feature film, music video, short, or commercial in 3D, a split-beam rig is a requirement. They allow you to achieve the smaller (6” to 0”) inter-axial (camera-to-camera) distances needed for medium and close-up shots. A side-by-side camera system is incapable of such shots and may cause severe eyestrain. That’s why we developed this easy-to-use, cost-effective 3D-SB Rig. Its precise, easy-to-use design eliminates the restriction of how close you can get to a subject when filming in 3D, while maintaining pristine picture quality and enabling precise alignment.
They're being deceptive with this statement. You dont need to be physically close to your subject to get a closeup shot unless your subject is an ant, and good luck moving a rig that bulky to follow an ant.

The one thing they didn't address is whether or not its easy-to-use.
